I have decided to sell but would consider a trade for 1999-2002 4wd 4runner + cash on your end. Prefer limited but open to sport. RR diff lock is highly preferred on limited model. Price is $21,000 but cash talks and I will make someone a fair deal.

1979 FJ40 by jgrande428 | Photobucket
I am selling my super rare, barn find, one of a kind 1979 Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser with clean Texas title. Hahaha. I love it when people say that. My cruiser is neither super rare, nor a barn find, nor one of a kind but its for sale nonetheless. Overall this is a very original fj40, not 100% original but very close. Purchased 3-4 years ago in GA and brought back to Texas. Has been garage kept ever since I owned it. I am the third owner. Purchased with 97K miles and currently has 100,800 miles. I have a notebook of receipts for the past several years. Never driven in the rain and oil changes on time every time. I give it a 7/10 overall rating.
Quick details:
Original 2F inline six with 100,800 miles
Original 4 speed transmission and transfer case (both rebuilt at 98K)
OEM fj40/fj60 white wheels
Weber carb and electronic choke
3.73 axle ratio
factory/port installed Nippon denso AC (blows cold)
factory power steering (rebuilt by Matt at West Texas Offroad)
Custom 8274 winch bumper built by Dave at 4+ products in AZ
8274 winch with remote
Rear swing away tire carrier bumper with jerry can holder
Custom heavy duty roof rack with swing out platform
New Goodyear MT Kevlar tires (have about 5k miles on them)
Aftermarket radio with ipod hookup
Interior, give it an 8.5/10 overall. The hard top is in excellent condition as well as the seats. I removed the factory jump seats as I wanted a fold and tumble rear seat so I could install car seats. They will come with the sale and are very good condition (9.5/10)
Exterior/undercarriage: Overall, pretty clean for a 40 year old landcruiser. Small spots of surface rust on places such as a scratch in the paint or on an edge where paint rubbed off (see pics…very minor). I am pretty OCD and my only complaint about my fj40 is the front floor pans. There were rusted many years ago and were replaced with fiber glass and not metal. Its hard to tell where metal starts and fiberglass begins. I am not sure, why fiber glass was used. I only assume that it is because OEM metal pans are hard to find for 1979 and newer fj40s. I searched for about a year and eventually found a company that made them so I have a NOS entire front floor pan to install. It does not need to be replaced, the fiberglass floors are fine but I am OCD and purchased a new metal floor pan. You can see in the pics where the old metal floor pan was left under the new fiberglass. Looks ugly but I am not going to gloss over any detail. That is the only reason I give it a 7 out of 10 versus a higher value.
Mechanically: Starts first time, every time. I never drive her about 50-55mph. I replaced the rear main seal around 98K along with oil pan gasket, front crank case seals/gaskets, thermostat, rebuilt rear brakes, rebuilt OEM radiator, cleaned the gas tank and repaired leaky gas line, driver front warn hub, and other odds and ends. While I was replacing the rear main seal, I had the transmission and transfer case rebuilt. They did not need to be rebuilt but figured I might as well since they were removed. Two minor issues, the cigarette lighter does not work and the fresh air valve pull seems to be stuck. Other than that, everything works, even the dome light.
Extras: comes with some powder coated extras like rear bumperettes and hub caps. Will also come with full soft top, bikini top, full front floor pan and other OEM body parts.
