Want to purchase a used Nav Unit in my 06 4runner. What Unit do I need Please help

I have a 2006 4runner. I want to buy a used OEM navigation unit. Not sure which one to purchase, or which will fit. (There are a lot of Ebay). I have a 6 cd changer factory currently. It is not JBL.

I am in the process of installing a Denso E7005 unit in my 2005 4Runner with factory JBL. I believe that the original factory unit for 2006 is the Denso E7008. These are hard to find on ebay, but you might post an ad in the classified section of this forum. It took me a year to find a E7005 on ebay! I would also try searching on qualityautoparts.com for a unit from a salvage yard.

The E7006 seems to be the most common unit on e-bay. It was used in the Tundra and Sequoia and is just like the E7005, but has green backlighting on the buttons at night. The E7005 and E7008 have amber buttons that match the 4Runner lighting scheme. Any model of Denso navigation system will physically fit, but there are have different features in different generations. The E7008 ads MP3 playback and I believe it ads voice commands and bluetooth.

You will also need to buy a JBL amplifier. For a wealth of installation information on Denso navigation units in general, oemvalue.com is a great resource. Unfortunately, they no longer sell any units. The information on this site has a source for the JBL amplifier. I would also invest in a Toyota factory wiring diagram and a factory service manual to help in any wiring modifications, but I believe that all of the wiring harnesses for navigation units were standard in 2006. A factory service manual in very valuable for disassembly of the dash for installation. The dash work is extensive, but not difficult if you have the manual. Don't forget about your Toyota dealer. The parts department can confirm the correct model number. Just don't buy a new one from them unless you are ready to spend over $4,000! Good luck!

You don't need a wiring harness with an Eclipse nav on the non-JBL system. It's a straight plug and play. An amp bypass kit is needed for 4Runners with the factory JBL system.

The actual OEM nav that will work best and the easiest is the analog JBL nav, commonly referred to as the Camry nav (2004-06). I need to check, but I believe the model number is E7003.

You will also need the climate control/clock display bezel. The bezel for nav models are different than the 6-CD changer models.

If you do not have an OEM JBL system, then any of the OEM toyota navs your looking at will not work. Reason being the OEM Nav units work with the factory JBL AMP, so you have different wiring then a JBL equipped truck. Is it possible? Probably, but you'd be Wayyyy better off going with an aftermarket unit like pioneer or kenwood.

In thinking through aftermarket, will I have to alter the factor dash finish? Will I loose my 6 cd changer or aux input capability? Thanks again for all the help

Uneek. I just read your reply. Thanks. I need some clarification regarding your comments. What is a Bezel, and does it matter that I changed out my single CD factory unit with a 6 CD dash unit ( I did this a year ago. It literally took me 20 minutes) Works fine. Thanks again for the help

wheres your cd changer?

google "tv nav to go" or "pac audio" and one of them should have an interface to be able to integrate the factory changer.

Your harness is different from a JBL equipped truck so a factory nav is not going to work

I'll try and clarify. There are two types of JBL navigation HUs (head units), analog and digital signal output to the JBL amp. The analog JBL nav HU is compatible for Toyotas without any factory JBL system, which is commonly referred to as the Camry nav. The digital JBL nav HU is for most vehicles with some sort of JBL sound system, with the exception of a few (such as the Camry and maybe select few Toyotas), also known as the Solara nav.

The "bezel", I'm referring to the silver center trim piece, where the HU goes between the two climate control vents, along with the clock/trip computer/climate control display. It has to do with how 6-CD HU and the single disc or nav HU sits. I believe the 6-CD HU is nearly flushed with the sides (where the vents are) and clock display. The nav HU sits slightly behind the sides, so the silver part of the bezel wraps to the side of the HU and has round corners.

Found it, this thread better illustrates the differences in the two bezels.

Just about all the OEM Toyota nav's from the first gen Tundra, first gen Sequoia, previous gen Camry ('02-06), second gen Solara, previous gen (ES300/330), Sienna, and the 4Runner that are similar in appearance will physically fit in the opening. The differences between the nav's lie whether they are the 1) single piece units (DVD-ROM is in the HU) or the (DVD-ROM is a seperate unit) and 2) if they are analog or digital signal output. The other is the bezel, which will make it a clean fit or two there will be some unsightly or undesired gaps.
