31x10.5 tires on a stock 1990 4Runner SR5 2WD

Hey Guys...

I've got a 90 runner, 22R-E currently running the stock 225/75/R15's...I've come across a decent deal on 5 31x10.5 tires on stock aluminium wheels off of a buddy's 90 V6 runner...

If I put these tires on my 4Runner will I encounter any problems other than reduced power/fuel economy?

I'm assuming my 2WD came stock with 4.10 gears....is it necessary to change these out to 4.56 for any reason other than to compensate for the lack of power?

If I were to leave the gears stock and run the larger tires would I damage the gears or the engine?

Also...would the bigger tires cause the brakes to malfunction in any way?

I'm new the the forum so any help would be appreciated. I've had the truck for 4 years now and just stopped using it as my daily driver 6 months ago....giving me a chance to start fixing all of the little problems and the big ones (body work)....

My buddy's 86 has 31X10.5 he hasn't had much trouble. Of cource the 1st gen is a little lighter then the 2nd. You'll notice a little difference.

I'm not sure about the gearing for the 2wd 4 cyl but I'm fairly sure you have 4.56 gears

when i bought my 95' 2wd 4runner it had 33x12.5 tires and stock gear ratios. besides the sucking up the fuel, i had to get my transmition replaced after 5 months. i think the engine is too weak to run big tires on a already heavy 4runner. i sold my tires and im running on stock tires now.

im not sure about the gearing, but i know you can run those wheels with little to no problems.

throw em on

oh and i didnt think canada had 2wd 4runners..........guess i learned something today
 
I am running 31x10.5s on a '93 V6 without an issue. It is a turd - but I don't think a tire/wheel combo is going to help much with that :)
 
ya, mine was a turd too. when i get a more powerful engine i will throw some bigger wheels on again.
