2003 T4R Sport with ToyTec Lift (Pics)

Hi there - i had started another thread a few weeks ago selling some spacers from my truck.

My XREAS suspension failed at about 56k miles and had to be replaced. I chose to go with the ToyTec Ultimate 3" Lift suspension consisting of Eibach springs and Bilstein 5100 shocks with a ToyTec coilover

I've been very satisfied with both the look and feel of the truck. I just returned from a 5 day camping trip in the eastern sierra nevadas with a stay in the Tuolumne area of Yosemite and an afternoon 4-wheeling around Mono lake and various trails off of 395. The truck drove better than it ever has.

I took some pictures of the truck while we were out this week. If you have any questions about the suspension let me know, i'd be happy to try and answer them. I can definitely recommend it!

UPDATE: Tires are Cooper 270/75/17 Mud/Snow. About 10k miles and the tread still looks brand new.

Looks great! did you have to do any trimming with those tires? Do you have wheel spacers on? how much did that lift cost?

hey there - i did trim under the front wheels when i had the cornfed spacers on there. I can't be sure but i don't think i'd have to trim using the ToyTec lift, there's a bunch more space than with cornfed.

I do have the spidertrax spacers on my wheels, the tires were rubbing on the UCAs at full lock, the spacers fixed that.

The cost was about $1200 for the suspension and i had it installed for a couple of hundred...

it wasn't a planned expense but fixing/replacing the XREAS suspension was quoted to me as $3400 so it was a pretty easy decision and definitely the right one in my opinion.

I won't get into it again but i'm an XREAS hater :bash:

Cant say it enough but I love the grey plastic bumpers/cladding/flares. Looks like they may do someting like that to the 2010 trail edition. Lift and tires look good but I also feel like it looks just a little nose high.

Looks great! I may drop the front a hair...

How do the 5100's dampen? Are they stiff? Is the under 35mph ride harsher? I know you did springs too so it's a bit hard to tell...

i think the front's a little high as well.. i'm going to drive it for 4-6 weeks to let the rear settle in and then adjust the front down to a level matching point

EDIT: The 5100s are great. The ride's really excellent at all speeds - can't say a negative thing about it. It takes sharp bumps really well and handles great at highway speeds on rolling roads.

Personally, I would make the front about 1" lower than the rear this way when you have passengers you dont get rear end sag.

How do you like those tires? Are they noisy?

hey there - the tires are not very loud that i can tell. i tend to drive on the highway with the windows down so there's no shortage of noise.

if i were to buy tires again i'd probably get something with a less aggressive tread though...

also, something to keep in mind when sizing the mud/snow tires - the tread is pretty tall and seems to add about one tire size incrementally to the overall size.

i had initially put a cornfed 2/1 on my truck with these tires and they rubbed a bunch even though that size of tire should have fit. I went to the 3/2 and everything was fine. It was close but worked great. If i'd oversized the lift from the get-go i wouldn't have had a problem. ymmv.

Just revisiting this thread as i just noticed that there were a bunch of PMs about it from a few months ago that i hadn't seen.

With regard to the antenna it's a dual-band ham antenna. I've got it attached via a Diamond K400 NMO Lip mount. I'm pretty sure this is the exact one i have (link)

It works great and for being something that can be relatively easily uninstalled it looks great too. I have it connected to a Kenwood D710 APRS capable ham radio. I've got it all installed in a way that i can go from fully installed and usable to not noticable in about 1 minute. (I live in a city so that's important to me). I leave the antenna on all the time but i can conceal the radio quickly and easily.

I'll see if i can get some pictures of the radio install sometime, i put a switchable DC power circuit in to power the radio and GPS unit i use with connectors for GPS power and GPS NEMA data serial) that's pretty low profile. The body of the radio is installed in the rear of the truck and the head can be set up and removed in the front. The hand mic is connected via a cable through the center console. I've been pretty pleased with the install and use it on all road trips i take and some mid-week driving - and i can park on the street when i get home and not have any trouble.

Also, if anyone's still interested in my cornfed 3/2 spacer kit it's for sale

Love your truck!! Im also interested in the Cooper tires. Can you confirm they are 32.4 inches tall? I know most 275-70 tires are 32.2. Seeing your rig sorta sealed the deal for the toytec and tires!

sweet ride

do you have your gas mileage before and after? thats lift and tires or just with the tires is fine too. I like getting around 20 for my daily driver so i don't want to go to aggressive.
