I color matched a few chrome pieces on my 10'. Since you cannot properly prep the chrome itself, you have to get rid of it and get down to the plastic otherwise the paint may fail over a short amount of time. I de-chromed by cycling the chrome pieces in tubs of bleach. The bleach did all the work; no scrubbing or sanding. I can't remember since it was a while back, but I remeber it took a significant amount of baths to get the chrome to fully release, but it did end up working completely. FYI not sure what the chemistry is between the bleach and the chrome, but I kept mine well ventilated, handled with protection and properly disposed of the solution every-time.

Once removed, in order to get the paint to properly adhere to the plastic I applied an even coat of plastic primer, sand and repeated until I had a good uniform surface. I let the body shop take care of the rest. You may not need to do this last part as I did as much prep myself since the body shop sprayed the parts gratis while it was in the shop for some self inflicted bumper damage.....
