If I can believe the salesperson it just arrived today. The thing looks MUCH better in person - I was very impressed by it. It's HUGE and seems exteremely well built :) This is a 2WD Limited w/ no nav and no 3rd row - the price was about $39K I think.

Nice pics! I assume you have to buy the hitch cover, mudguards, crossbars, and what else as accessories, right?
 
Nice pictures. That is the first picture of the engine in a 2010 that I have seen. What are those dorky looking portholes on top of the engine in your first picture of the second post? 3 on each side of the plastic top. Kind of reminds me of the fake portholes on the side of a Buick. I can't imagine them being of any kind of functional use.

The overall looks seem a little chunky to me. What was your impression when you saw it in person?

They're petri dishes for collecting samples if the hood scoop is opened up. :D

I'm getting use to the 5th's look. I still don't like looking directly are the back end. The taillights look out of place when the hatch is closed.
 
That sliding cargo tray does look like it's more hassle than useful. Seems to take up a bunch of good storage space.

Nah that would be silly, it's actually a convenient built in snack tray for tailgating - here's the procedure from the owner's manual:

1. Place vehicle in Park and apply emergency brake
2. Open rear hatch
3. Pull out sliding rear cargo deck
4. Pop hood
5. Remove engine cover / snack tray* - CAUTION: snack tray may be hot
6. Place engine cover / snack tray on sliding rear cargo deck
7. Fill snack tray as desired (e.g. pretzels, chips, wings) and enjoy

* Not available on SR5 equipped with 2.7L engine

:lol: I stand corrected. It's not a petri dish and it's a "chip and dip" station.

BTW, I've seen the revised manual today.

#8. It can make stale chips crunchy by starting the engine. Vehicle must remain in Park, otherwise an unsightly engine bay may result if vehicle is put in motion.
 
I'm looking at the picture of the sliding tray in this thread versus the cargo area in the SR5 pics owned by jt 4rnr http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs-its-finally-here/57283-its-here-5th-gen-t4r-sr5.html#post472227. Doesn't the cargo deck height seem to be about the same whether there is a slide out cargo tray or just the standard cargo area? To me it looks like there is a four inch or so rise in deck height in BOTH the standard cargo area and the slide out tray.

I couldn't copy and paste both pics in my post but if you look at the pics side by side, I don't really see any difference in usable cargo area height.
 
Is that actually what that plasitic cover is used for? A snack tray? Because the engine bay looks way better with that cover removed.
