Car Stolen - Need some help from Las Vegas Members

Hey all. I have been a member of this board for a few months and I have been a member of numerous other boards for 3+years. I have posted this on several boards and I have asked friends of mine to post this on as many boards as they can. I am in a situation where I am hoping that the knowledge and willingness of many of the board members I have experienced might help me in a tough situation. It is a long story but I will surmise it below.

The thing is there are plenty of legitimate companies out here who do this and I did quite a bit of research on these guys from the beginning. I think they were a legitimate business, but perhaps ran into financial difficulty and are now just flaking.
 
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I agree with above...get anybody and everyone involve, including a lawyer. A lawyer may have ways to investigate that you have not thought of.

Was your 4runner 4wd or 2wd?? This is somewhat important because it's easier to narrow down what people have to look for. 4wd models will have the "4wd" emblem next to "LIMITED" on the rear door. 2wd models do not have this "4wd" emblem. This applies to 1999-02 4runners.

Unfortunately, your SILVER 4runner is quite popular.

As noted above, the license plate is probably gone by now.

Maybe post your VIN#, since it's pretty hard to change that. The VIN# is on most parts of the 4runner.

Thanks for the link and good advice. I have edited the post above to indicate that it is a 4X4 and I will look for the VIN# and add that tomorrow morning. Thanks!
 
Just a suggestion (not sure if it will work)...have you try CARFAX?? If your 4runner has been sold to another person or re-registered, then couldn't CARFAX tell you that another owner has it??? I don't have much experience with CARFAX, but it's worth a look into. Unfortunately, it is not a free surface...it costs around $18.

Carfax is a good idea, although there may be a delay between registration and them having the data.

However, there may be a way to check with the state department of motor vehicles (or equivalent) to see what the procedure is to get a stolen vehicle's VIN traced to see if it has been re-registered. It may take an attorney to help, but it never hurts to call the DMV and see what they say -- it may turn out to be pretty simple. With a government, you never know.
