I had nothing to do tonight so I decided to see what was going on at the clublexus.com board. I came across a way to program the navigaion while driving. The only downside is this method will only work on the 2005 navigation system and it has to be done every time you start the truck. The good part is it involves no disassembling or cutting wires. Basically what you have to do is go to the volume menu, then push the little speaker on the top left, push the bottom left corner of the screen, push the speaker again, and then push the bottom left of the screen again. After that, you will be in the service menu. What you want to do there is push the "override" button and hold down until it beeps. Then push the back button and you are all set to go. I have tried this on my truck and it actually works. It is very easy to do as well!

I hope this will work in the '05 Camry NAV, if so this might be the best thread EVER!!!! Now, is there anyway to turn down the volume of the beep? With my aftermarket amp, and the gains turned up just a bit, the beep is down right defening!!! So if anyone knows of a way to lower the volume of the beep through some secret button pushing sequence like this one, I would be ever so GRATEFUL!!!!!
 
Update: I found out another benefit by doing this, you can actually views RDS messages while driving. I hated those times when your driving along and hear this song that love but can't think of the band or name of it.

I have not played around with a 3rd gen nav unit so I don't know for sure. Some people on the lexus forum tried it on their 2004 GX470 and it did not work.

Here the destination menu is still unlocked while driving. I don't want to promote that the driver should be doing this while driving though because it isn't safe!

Hey this is the best part yet..... YOU CAN DO THIS "OVERRIDE" AT ANYTIME WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING!!!!" When I first read this post I was under the assumption that it had to be done everytime when you start the engine, but i just confirmed that it can be done at anytime reagardless!

No problem. I haven't fooled around with the other options on the service menu. I don't think there is a manual for this system. I have searched google and found nothing. It is probably hidden somewhere in Japan! :D
 
Any one play around with the load option on the service menu? I selected a couple of the ones labeled US and it seems to load a new firmware and then reboots the system. I haven't noticed any new or differant functions.

The problem I have now is that I don't know which file is the default one.
