The other mods I've made to my 4runner so far have been to add a Gentex autochromatic mirror with the digital compass and to change my tilt steering wheel to one that is both tilt and telescopic --- Of any of my modifications so far, changing my steering wheel to a telescopic one is by far my favorite. Gaining a couple of inches on the steering wheel does not sound like much, but it has made a world of difference for my driving comfort. Now I can have my seat stretched all the way back and still comfortably reach the steering wheel.

Thanks, Yah I'm liking how they turned out. I looked at some of the full grill guards and I agree with you, they just don't seem to fit right on the new 4runners.
Another added benefit I'm finding with my bumper guards, vehicles seem to be giving me a bit more space lately I haven't been tail-gated nearly as bad with them on

At the time, I started asking around at various dealerships to see how much something like that would cost and they all said it couldn't be done because of either differences in the steering column setup, too much risk of pulling out the steering wheel, or that I would have to replace my airbag and would cost way too much... Anyway, I ended up going to a local body shop here in Houston that my wife's family knew and trusted and asked the guys there if this could be possible. It got them curious and they looked into it for me.
Turns out it was a pretty simple thing to change. From what I was told, all the components in the steering wheel are exactly the same for all 4Runner models right down to the airbag assembly, and all they would have to do was order a couple replacement parts for the telescopic portion of the steering column and I could get it all installed in a day.
All said and done, it cost me about $1000 for the parts and labor, but, for me, it's been well worth it.

I got them both from Auto Anything.com, which worked out great. I got them within a week of my order and had free shipping to boot.
Installing them wasn't too bad and the directions are pretty straightforward... but its definitely not a one person job. My only problem with them was getting the rear bumper guard on with the 7000 lb hitch. The bolts that were sent with the guard were a bit too small to mount it securely, but the original bolts from the 4Runner were long enough to work ok and it seems to be mounted solidly enough ..... even after its been crash tested

Just curious b/c I am thinking of doing the same thing... how did you get the rear for $170.. I see it at autoanything for around $265. Thanks
