Advertising on your car

When you purchase a new car the first thing a dealer likes to do is put the dealership advertising on your car. Sometimes they are chunky letters, or a licence plate frame. The dealer might even put both on your brand new car.

I never allow this!!! How dare they even put this on a persons new car without even getting permission. I am not going to advertise the dealership for free. Last time I purchased a car I told them to either take that sh#t off my car or you will be paying me $100 a month to advertise.

It surprises me to no end the amount of stupid people that just allow the dealer to advertise on their car for free, just look around the next time you are in traffic. The car did not come from the factory with the dealerships advertising on it. they put it on then laughed that you will be driving around with their name on your car for free.

Do you advertise for a car dealership for free? Or did you just remove all advertising from your car because after reading this, you said hell no!

Yes, I took off their sticker and licence plate frame on the first day. Later I replaced with T4R.ORG sticker and T4Runner licence plate frame.

Some member go futher by even remove Toyota letters, too. How about create our own SUV's brand.:D
 
Yup, first day I had it I removed thier silly emblem. After a couple months I went ahead and removed ALL the emblems.

I kept the license plate for a month or two until I found an aftermarket one.
 
I would NEVER allow a dealership to put it's advertising on my 4Runner! :mad:

I really don't understand anyone who does.

The license plate frame is another story. I've still got my original one from the dealership with it's name on it but that's a minor issue compared to having an emblem GLUED to your truck.
 
Let me see.. I took off the dealership badge... then took off their license plate frame.. and on some of their cars.. they have rear window decals.

Luckly SoCal car buyers usually don't have to worry too much about it. Thankfully my John Elway sticker was pretty easy to take off...I guess it's not that big of a deal. Nothing to get pissed about...if someone doesn't like it that much, go find a dealer that doesn't do it. Not everyone does it, although in Colorado it seems like they all do.
 
I still have the dealer license plate frames on, I almost took them off last weekend but I think I will do it tonight. I was also very glad/surprised they didnt put a sticker on my paint even though they did on my previous car bought from the same dealer. At first I didnt mind the frames but now i think about it I have made them enough money they dont need anymore from me.

Mine didn't come with a sticker (which I wouldn't have allowed and removed) but I kept the licence plate frame. I want to send business away from the 2 local stealers to the excellent out-of-town dealer.
Now here's an idea... If someone (GG or Thai or Momo...) comes up with a T4R.org logo plate frame I might buy it!
 
I don't allow them to stick their damn name on MY vehicle. I also removed their license plate frame as soon as I got home from the dealer.
 
When you buy your car, you can tell the dealership from the start that you do not want any dealer advertising on your car. This is the point of half the thread. Dealers do this because people let them get away with it.
 
If it was a sticker on my car --- I would be quite mad. Luckily my dealership only put a license plate frame on ... which I have been too lazy to take off.
 
I didn't have dealership's advertising
I didn't have dealership's name visible from license plat frame
I didn't have temporary license on my vehicle

So,

no one knows where I purchased the vehicle from,
no one knows I am driving a new vehicle,
no one knows when I purchased the vehicle
 
i only promote T4R.org on my 4Runner. I used the cheap ass dealer license frames behind my IL. plates . Just to protect the paint.
 
I never post any negativity, but this post is about worthless. Who cares?! If you don't want it on there, just tell them you don't. No dealership is going to throw a fit. The way I figure it, most of you guys seem to get great deals (invoice or below) on your 4Runners. Why wouldn't you want to help out a dealership that treats you right?

Sorry for the negativity, but come on. You all must live the easy life if this is what you're worried about.

Even at invoice the dealer makes a fist full of cash. Plus the fact that you may need service. So the dealer makes money there as well.

Advertising a dealership on your car is worth at least $100 a month, why do it for free. The dealer pays several thousand dollars a year the advertise in the phone book or newspapers, why advertise the dealer for free? Plus the dealer has the nerve to do this without even asking permission. Put your foot down and say take that crap off my car or pay me!
 
I guess I'm just not obsessed with money like most out there. A good dealership will take care of things for a good customer that aren't always covered under warranty if you relate that back to paying them for future service work. See if the dealer will goodwill your messed up part at 37,000 miles if you complain about things like their stickers and frames on your car.

This just strikes a chord with me. The Toyota dealer I work for is ranked 3rd in the nation (out of 1,206 dealerships) for our service satisfaction. We figure if you scratch a quick itch on our back, you'll get a full body massage in return. Over the past 5 1/2 years I've worked there, I can recall 3 people that didn't want our logo on their car, and we probably sell between 2200-2400 new Toyotas a year. When the 3 people asked us to remove our logos, we just said "sure, no problem" I can't even fathom the idea of someone wanting us to pay them for advertising on their car. I'm not going to touch on the subject of the "huge amounts of money" the dealership makes even at selling a car at invoice. Anyone that knows anything about the car business will prove you wrong there.

Anyway, that's just my two cents. There are just so many other worthwhile things to discuss rather than "you're going to pay me for that sticker on the back of my car or I'm going to get upset"

haha, I agree completely. Now don't get me wrong, I don't like the sticker or emblem on there but I'm not going to make a big stink about it and demand to be paid.
 
I've always asked the dealer not to put on their sticker when I bought a new vehicle and never had a problem. I've bought at least 6 maybe 7 new cars and trucks of various makes ( :confused: the mind is starting to go and I can't remember for sure) and in every case they've been more than cooperative about not putting their signage on the back.

In fact, when I asked the Toyota dealership to not put their sticker on the 4 Runner thay asked if it would still be okay to put on their license plate frames or would I prefer they leave them off as well. I let them put on the frames, just to make them feel good, but don't think they lasted much longer than it took to get home. :D:
 
Why should we even have to ask the dealer not to put their advertising on our car? Plus they dont even ask your permission they just slap it on. Good for you guys, most of you demand the dealer not put it on or take it off!
 
Question

When I was younger I bought cars with the dealer logos attached and never thought much about it. Now I also tell them not to attach any logos to the vehicle. Not a big deal, but it is very presumptuous of them to automatically attach them without asking first.

The dealer license plate holder is a different matter. No harm here IMO but I did buy chrome custom logo "4Runner" holders for this vehicle. (And of course the "NRA" decal goes on the rear windows of all my vehicles).

The real reason I am responding to this thread is to ask why some of you remove the Toyota logos and model insignias from your Runners? I was always meaning to ask. (I can understand if it was a Chevy, Ford, or Chrysler - but Toyota?)
