Replacing factory speakers in 03-04 4Runner

Has anyone replaced the factory speakers in the a 03 - 04 4Runner? I got new speakers and when I removed the door panel I realized that the factory speakers are in a special mounting kit. Is it possible to purchase these kits, or do I need to manufacture it?

I think you will have to do some experimenting and fabrication. Remember these are new vehicles and the aftermarket needs time to catch up.

Thank you for the info darktiger, nice truck. I was just getting ready to begin constructing the mounts myself too. This is turning out to be more of a project than I planned. I remeber the times when the most difficult thing to do was removal of the door panels. Now I am trying to find a better place for my amp, since I want to keep my cargo space free, and not keep it under the seat. Looking at modifing one of the storage compartments.

no prob. I had to modify the front storage compartment to fit my XM SkyFi radio.
