Hey everyone thought I'd share my newest install since I haven't seen anyone with the aftermarket seat heaters... Basically I installed them myself in about 2 hours taking my time and the install was a breeze... I re-used the hog rings instead of buying new ones since there were a whole 6 rings to re-attach.

My first impressions are they are pretty good. The kit itself was 219 + shipping. One of the seat switches was stuck when i first opened the package but the company I bought it from quickly sent out another switch and had me mail back the bad one (free of charge). Oh yeah, they also have a 3yr warranty which is great. Now I'm ready for Tahoe... that was my excuse for getting them and living in cali :p .

another pic....

Oh yeah, the swithces DO NOT light up.... I asked if they will ever come out with them and they said they didn't plan on it... However, they also said if they do ever come out with them all I have to do is pull mine out and they'll send me the new ones...

two settings... the default one is the click it up and that turns on the back warmer.. click it down and it turns on the butt & back warmers.

2nd setting (and the one I picked) is click it up and it is on HI (both pads) and click it down its set on LO. The two temp setting are I believe 135 for low and 145 for HI. There was a small box I installed under the each seat and then I ran the other wire to the power source in the left kick panel (t-taps) and the two switches up to where you see em'.
 
Hey, I was just looking at that site today! Nice job on the install. I was hoping the switches would be lit though. Thanks for posting it up!
 
Actually it doesn't matter if its leather or not... In fact, the thickness of the leather seats probably hampers the performance a bit. Cloth seats and these would work too.

Yeah man the install was a breeze... I'd show the underside of the seats but its no biggy.. I just stuck the box in the under pan of the seat and zip tied them to the brackets...

I am acutally curious to see the underside of the factory switch cuz I might be able to use the factory one... Can anyone snap a pic of the underside of the factory one by chance?

Do you think they would work under a set of seat covers? Specifically neoprene (Wet Okole)?

I currently have cloth but would love to give these a try.

Too late for the Christmas gift list but I wouldn't mind looking to get these.

Now the questions...
Where is the power source (did you run a wire up to the fuse block?) How do you take the console apart to install the switches? I know you said the wiring is straight forward but any other closeup pics of the wire routing would help.

Kmvreter - that portion of the console is super easy to take out. Just open the center armrest and tug upwards and it just pulls out. I'm suprised you've never taken it out as I've seen some threads of your electronic exploits :)
 
the wiring is really easy... I don't have any pics but I could take some if some one really needs them.... But basically the only thing you have to wire is the ACC, B+, and ground... the ground ends up at a bolt under the left kick panel as well as the the ACC & B+. Those two piggy/tap off two wires under the left kick. All this is very clear w/ illustrations as to what these two plugs look like in the directions that are provided as well as the wire taps.

What I had to take touch to make this all work are as follows:

-both seats (including the hog rings)
-left kick panel
-left door sill
-the whole center console (which is really 6 10mm screws and the whole thing slides out)

The power harness comes out the little carpet flap under both seats; pretty much where the stock harness comes out.

Thanks. Luckily I haven't had to work in that area, until now. I'm always leary of removing trim. It's never obvious how it clips together until after the fact when you have it apart. I find the Toyota trim is well designed for final fit and finish but it seems fragile and marks easily.

Would I be right to say that this is a well designed kit that is "plug & play" compatible with T4R wiring?
 
When someone gets these installed on cloth seats, can you post the results? I've love to get these would like to get your opinion as to how well these work with cloth seats.
 
Okay sorry was at Tahoe pretty much all day... Its raining like crazy here in the SAC area... because of the rain sorry no pics just yet (of the wiring that is)...

I asked about the certain states awhile back and IICR those are the SouthEast region states and you guys have to go through another channel to obtain them. I called Rostra directly and they wanted $289 for the kit while M&R electronics only charges $219... weird, huh?

as for the compatibility... its not much about it to debate... The only wiring that you touch of the actual runner is the constant(B+) and the accesory wire(ACC) which are both found in the left kick panel... the last wire is the ground and that gets secured by a factory bolt. All other 'wiring' is supplied with the kit. Both the ACC & B+ are wire tapped and both warmer units are individually fused (10amp) under both seats. So I think between the car fuses and the two additional ones that come with the kit the 4runner wiring is safe.

And the site says it's for the 2005 model only, but I presume it is compatible with 2003 and 2004 models???

We're all waiting for you to take the plunge to buy and install them into cloth seats and let us know how they work. :)
