I'm about to ditch these death trap Dunlops (2005 SE)...

and my tentative choice for replacements is the Yokohama Geolander HT051. I figure I'll stick to the OEM size of 265/65/17. If anyone out there thinks I should consider sizing up for more selection, let me know. I think the Yokos are probably just as good as the Revos and they're $125 less or so in the final analysis. I don't live in an area with snow or ice - I'm looking for a good highway tire and an excellent wet traction tire. The Yokos seem to fit the bill.

Any thoughts guys?

I pick up my truck on thurs nite and it's going for Revo's on Fri. AM. Stocker's not aggressive enough for my taste. I am going up in size to the 265/70/17 just to give it a little better look.
 
i actually went down in aspect ratio and went to a more street oriented tire (unlike everyone here on the board) as the truck never really sees off road duty (cause im never home)

Best thing i could have done... whatever you do get the dunlops off.
 
I fell victim to the crappy Dunlops recently. Didn't know what all the criticism was about, but came up to a stop sign (slight downhill) that's usually icy, have been through there many times and know it's icy, always go really slowly. So I attempt to stop well back of that MB ML 320......and then proceed to slid very slowly about 15 feet with my foot on the brake and the ABS workin' away, until I slide at about 1/2 mph into the back of the MB. My nice JAOS lamp stay takes most of the impact, something it's totally not designed to do--luckily the JAOS lights are high enough that they don't get broken. Basically does nothing more than smudge my bumper a little, put a little knick in the bumper plastic where the lamp stay that's mounted to the bumper mounts moved backwards a few inches (I guess the bumper is designed to do that), didn't seem to bend anything, but freakin dents her rear lift and bumper fascia. That's gonna cost me.

I now know what people are talking about. These tires suck on ice and snow.
 
in icy conditions, no tire (unless they're studded) is going to provide much traction. I've got 25k on my dunlops and they perform adequately for me. I took them out today on unplowed neighborhood streets and it got me back home in one piece. I'm sure the 4runner's electronic doohickies kept them in check though.

It was recommended that I install the Geolanders as replacements for the AT20 Dunlops. Here is Canada they have a warranty for 4 years or 100,000 km (according to Yokohama website). I was going to ask if anyone had tried them.

I have a dedicated set of Bridgestone Winter Duelers on steel rims, exclusively for winter snow and ice, so want more of a smoother tread for non-winter conditions.

ditching dunlops

i ditched my dunlops with about 22k on them my new tire is a set of cooper discovery m+s AWSOME its like a different truck in snow and water ialso uped the size to 70 series get new tires quick

They do fine in the snow and we get a lot of that. They're not so hot on ice, worse than I would expect given the limited traction on ice. I lived for 13 years in MN and so I'm a fairly good winter driver. The street where I bumped the lady had be treated with grit, so that's what seemed strange--maybe some earlier driver had slid and wiped a clean track that I happened to get into. It was all very weird because I slowed well back and I pass through that spot often so I know it's slick. Sometimes if the ice has melted a little and there's a film of water, then it's really slick. It was like slow motion with a little love tap at the end.

I also have the Dunlops on my 2005 4Runner. I thought they must be pretty good tires. I was wrong!

The Geolandars are rated highly.

I will also 'ditch' mine soon. Thinking of some 18" replacements. Anyone have any suggestions?

Actually Car and Driver just did a test of breaking on ice alone, and there was a huge difference in what tires do on the same car. It was like 50 foot difference in terms of breaking. My BFGs are excellent on Ice... i hit some black ice on the highway and they gripped nicely - helped me avoid an accident.
