So, how many ponies do you think you need in order to pull 10k lbs?
Well, AutoWeek on line states that the 5.7L will be over 300hp...so 301? 320? 350? 399?

Finally, Toyota is serious about trucks.
No more of that 7/8ths Tundra.......a real 5.7 liter engine in a full size frame and body.
I would guess that the 5.7 would be 340 hp/390-400 pounds of torque.
Now if and when Toyota makes a 3/4 ton-1 ton diesel...say a 6.2 liter oil burner with 350 hp and 650 pounds of torque, and rated for 17,000 pounds of towing power, GM and Ford will be waving the white flag.

Hmmm... wonder how long before they put the current 4.7 V8 in the Tacoma.
Can't say I like it...
I think the current Tundra is plenty big. I have NEVER seen anybody on the road using a Tundra ANYWHERE NEAR its full capacity (and I live in the heart of truck-ville in San Antonio, TX). Who in the world needs the ability to tow over 10k lbs??? I think it was REALLY comical when I pulled into the last track event towing a friend's S2000 with my 4Runner... I was the smallest tow vehicle in a collection of duallies, full size 1500's with extended cabs, and even a 3500 Chevy winnebago pulling a Honda Civic... I laughed at all of them, knowing that I was able to do 80-85mph perfectly comfortably all the way (150 miles) up to the event that morning.
Oh, and when it rained, my gear stayed dry in the hatch of the 4Runner.
About a week ago, I went to Home Depot and purchased a full pallet of paver stones for a large landscaping project at the house. When they asked me if I had a truck, I told them I'd like to see any truck short of a 3500 Dually haul that 3,000lb pallet away from their parking lot. They effortlessly loaded the pallet of bricks onto the 16' tandem axle trailer I brought with me and I could still drive my vehicle to work the next day without having to unload the 3,000lbs of bricks that night; I just unhitched the trailer when I got back to the house.
Trucks suck, IMHO.... They have their purpose in life for some, but the 4Runner does nearly everything better, in my opinion.
Who wants to be the first to put that 5.7L into a 4Runner???
