The V-6 has more than enough power to get me in trouble with the law. I have a bad impulse control problem in my right foot and it could only get worse with the V-8. Here in NC any speeding ticket 15MPH over the limit is a mandatory court date. Having already done this 3 times I have been court ordered to use my left foot to drive since it is less impulsive.
On the level.... If losing my ass in the trade-in was not a problem I would probably trade for the 06 V-8 SE 4x4 today. VVT-I V-8. Sounds good to me. I don't really need a 4X4 but it would be nice to have for trips to the beach.
If they were to offer the new 5.7 in the next couple years I might be willing to take a loss.:biggrin2:

I'm getting 20 - 22 mpg with mixed city and highway driving. Plus, the V8 feels heavy in corners. I like the V6. My friend has the exact same car and he regrets the dealer talking him into the V8. Neither one us tow anything either. But I'm sure the V6 would tow just fine too.

Ask me again in about 10 years when I (hopefully) have several hundred thousand miles on the V6.
Right now, I have no need for the V8, which I believe is over 200 pounds heavier than the V6 (cast iron vs. aluminum block). This sort of supports veloindy's experience with the V6 having a little better handling.
However, Toyota's 4.7L V8 is regarded as one of the best, most durable power plants in the industry. If the more modern V6 ends up holding its own in this regard, I will be completely happy.
If not, I would say "Wow! I could've had a V8."

I used to have 5.7L V8 just before my 4Runner and the V6 has all the acceleration and power I need. I have yet to tow a thing in the past year I've had it. I'll stick with my consistent 21+ mpg every tank.
