First off let me just say hello. I have been lurking here for some time know and finally got around to registering.
I have seen the posts here reference guys putting 265/70/17 (mainly BFG AT/KO's) on their 4Runners that have 17' rims. Well I called to price a set and the tire tech tells me that 265/70/17's are just too "huge" of a tire to put under a 4Runner.
He said you may be able to get it on the truck and have if go round and round but they could screw up the shift points of the tranny and the ABS braking.
He was attempting to talk be into going with a 275/60/17 and suggested the BFG Rugged Trail. Well I was trying to get acrossed to him that I wanted a more agressive tire if I am going to replace basicly brand new tires (less then 9,000 miles).
From what I have been able to find there aren't any agressive tires for 275/60/17 either.
I kept asking if there was that big of a difference between 265/65/17's and 265/70/17's and this tech acted like I was asking to put 35"ers on. Saying that is was a world of diffence. From what I can see from that great link I found here is that it's only an inch taller. To me I wouldn't think an inch would be that big of difference.
I know this may be silly but I noted that this is the same size tires the they put on "Global Extremes" 4Runner and there is no note of any other mods to the drivetrain
So has anybody here noticed any problems with going to 265/70/17, other then minor rubbing? I see from the photos that they look great. Thanks in advance for any advice you guys might be able to provide.
