Borla with rear air suspension

I've searched with no results. Does having the rear air suspension on the '06 limited V8 interfere with the borla exhaust system? Anyone here have this setup?
Secondly (and less importantly) a topic of much debate: anyone vehemently opposed to borla or magnaflow? Reasons?

I don't think the issue is the rear air suspension when installing the BORLA. I thought the problem was the relocated XREAS mounting position, which in turn moved the spare tire mounting enough to conflict with the BORLA.

I prefer the Magnaflow because I personally don't like the dual exhaust "look". If it was a TRUE dual exhaust system, maybe I'd change my tune. The extra weight of the BORLA just to "look" like a dual exhaust turns me off... Also the Magnaflow should fit the 2006 without issues. You may want to contact Magnaflow to be sure...
 
Lots of us have the Borla system that was released this past year for Sport Edition (X-REAS equipped) 05-06 4Runners. I have it on my 06 Sport and it fits with no problems. And the spare is still mounted with the proper clearance. I think the part number from Borla is 140146, so do a search on their website. I got my set through Courtesy Toyota in Florida and had them send it to me in California. Much cheaper than paying retail through Borla. I think you'll be happy with Borla or Magnaflow, whichever way you choose. It's just a matter of personal preference.
 
Thanks sharp4runr and T4runner06. I read about people getting their setups from Coutesey. A local Borla dealer quoted 697 for the exhaust but at the end of the conversation said that it was a custom intall that he would have to do; I couldn't just buy it from him and bolt it on myself. I thought that was odd. I am going to call him back and clearify what he was talking about. If they don't offer the whole kit from Borla made of T-304, I am going to contact Coutesy and have it shipped.

If the local dealer quoted you $697, that's not a bad price and you may want to consider it. If you were to order from Courtesy Toyota, the shipping charges alone are probably going to be a lot since the big box has to travel across the continental U.S. and then on to Hawaii. I'd check to see how much it is before you decide.

As for them claiming it's a "cutsom" installation, the only thing custom is it's not a Toyota product, which means it's different from what they usually install. Hopefully, they're not mistaking the bolt on Borla kit for some custom bent tubing with a Borla muffler that they'd weld up for you. You may want to clarify because the Borla kit is all stainless, mandrel bent, and easy to install with simple hand tools. I did it in my driveway without even having to put the truck up on a jack. Either way, you can install this kit yourself, so don't buy their sales talk. They just want to make $$$ on labor

Well, I went by the shop and it turns out that what you mentioned is exactly what they were going to do, a Borla muffler with their own welded aluminized piping. I asked if they could order the kit for me from Borla but they couldn't come close to the price that Tad at Courtesy Toyota gave me. What is funny is that the shop told me that if I get the exhaust, they would be hapy to install it for $150! I told them, "I think I can use my wrench set for free, thank you." I am working with Tad now to get the kit here. It is a bit different for him working with someone in HI, both the 6 hour time difference and the shipping.
 
Yeah, the shipping cost will be expensive due to the distance, but the discount you will get is worth it compared to MSRP from Borla (over $1000!). As for the time difference, I know what you mean. I deal with that on a daily basis since I work nightshift and can't contact people when it's convenient for me. Everyone's asleep!
 
I don't see any dual exhaust working with the rear air susp. There are components for the system in the channel on the driver's side where the pipe is routed.

Well, I ordered it from Courtesy Last week and it will be here Thursday. I guess I will know by Friday if it works or not. I asked Tad about it and he said it should work. But, we know how it works when a salesman is making a sale.
I'll update this thread then.
 
Well, I received the Borla system today and installed it. There were no problems with my setup: Limited V8 with X-REAS and Air Suspension. The mounting possition on the drivers side shares the bolt with the compressor. That is the only diference and there is no conflict with this or the routing. I have only driven it about 5 miles since I finished after dusk and love it so far!


Does anyone know what air filter Coutsesy packages with the Borla? It came with a sticker to place on the air box that says not to discard because it is a non-disposable air filter. The sticker has the Borla symbol on it but I don't see filters on their site.
Who makes it, and should I use it?


It was a pain loosening the bolts betwen the muffler and the rear exhaust section. After fighting with that, it was a snap. I only took two pictures of the process and none of the final due to lack of light.

Had a question(s) for you guys I know it's been a while since I've been here asking questions. I notice a while back when I have heavy load or if I hit a low line slope in the ground I here something hitting from the bottom of my 05 v8 4runner. I also brought my borla exhaust system from Tad from Courtsey Toyota. Took it to Toyota today I got on the lift and the Tech guy and I notice that the right side mandell pipe have been bent or has a rubbing groove in it. The tech guy says the everytime I have a load or hit a ditch the borla pipe hit the rear rocker arm in the back and tthat the noise I have been hearing. Has anyone else experience the samething or did they mount the exhaust the wrong way on my 05 v8 4runner.:awais: :bash: :confused:

I don't know what kind of clamps were used with your system but you need to loosen the claps and move/shift/turn the pipes so they do not touch. What happen to your exhaust is it was set-up without knowing that at full susp. compression it would hit. A slight adjustment could be the difference between hitting and not. The Magnaflow system uses stainless strap clamps and can be readjusted if newly installed. If regular clamps were used you still may be able adjust it but you may have to use WD-40 and work the connection back and forth until it moves. Do this ASAP! Good Luck.

Are the hangers/bracket holders surpose to be inline with each other? From the back to front hangers/brackets. The front 2 hangers/brackets are inline meaning straight connections but as you get to the back the muffler shift to the left more. It resulted in the right center pipe coming from the muffler to lean over the rear rocker arm of the suspension and once I have poeple in my truck or if I hit a ditch the pipe hits the rocker arm.:(

If you could take a pic of your system and where the problem is someone could maybe see where the problem is and/or how to correct it.

I took some pic today. You can see the spot where the rocker arm hit the right pipe leading the the exhaust. It the back looking towards the front of the truck. The pic is showing the right leading to the right exhaust tail pipe which you see in the second pic. The body shop is telling he can correct by welding a new bracket to pullinng whole muffler to the left moving it away from the metal edge.
