Auto Dimming Mirror added (non-Gentex)

Originally I was looking at Gentex but I wanted to have a compass that had more than 4 possible readings (N-S-E-W), possibly a numeric readout in degrees.

On EBay I found a company (yovus) that sells Gentex and also this model:

It is made in China and includes:

Auto-dimming (blue tint)
Electronic Compass in 1 degree increments plus Alpha symbols
Temperature measurement with ice alert
UV sensor

The readout can be dimmed or the entire mirror can be shut off.

I just installed it today and I REALLY appreciate all of the information in the other threads on the Gentex mirror installs.

The picture below shows what the blue tint looks like

A few other notes:

Because the 4RUnner already has an external temp display I placed this new sensor in the cab near the fuse panel to the left of the steering wheel. I'll see if that is a decent spot for watching the cabin temperature.

The UV sensor is not yet installed. I ran out of time but will get it next weekend.

I think that the calibration map is in error. I've used a lot of electronic compasses and this one was not getting it quite right. I finally tried a few other zones and got it right.

The auto dim seems to react in about 2 seconds.

I had loosened one connector down in the kick panel and forgotten to tighten it. Whoo Boy!!!!:awais:

Engine check light, no fuel guage, no VSC..... yikes! I guessed right away what I had done and got it fixed.

While I was doing all of this I also ran a power cable for my Radar detector. It is an Escort "smart" cord so I need to place the display and button somewhere.

Ran the mirror late last night and the auto-dim worked fine. It is funny that the blue tint makes it look as if everyone is running HIDs.

The mirror you installed has a few more features than the Gentex. The one that came standard on my Limited only has a compass. Anyway, it is a very useful features to have. Nice install! :D

Thanks! I have to say that without this forum a lot of my mods would never have been so easy. (AND, I might never have known about them!)
