New 2007 E7009 Navigation Install in 2006 4Runner SE Progress and Findings

I have been dependant on this forum, searching and asking questions when I started this project. I decided I would post my progress and findings, including answers to many of the questions I have had.

I am installing the new 2007 Solara Nav in my car. The part number is E7009 and I got it from OEMValue.com

If any of you have questions, please let me know. So far I have ripped apart the car , installed the Mic and steering wheel ribbon cable. I am still waiting on the steering wheel switch and Sirius kit. These aren't huge accomplishments but they were difficult to find answers to. Below you will find pictures and comments of what I have done along the way. Hopefully this forum will help those of you trying to do the same...

steering wheel

For some reason I had a hard time with the steering wheel. Once I figured out what to do it was easy, but tinkering with it was scary as I didn't want airbag in my face. All you need to do is take off the two side plastic plate covers. Behind each one you will find a torx screw. Remove each and the horn/airbag assembly will slide off easily. Once in there, you will see a philips screw covering the left control (volume, mode, channel) and the right control (blank). Remove both. Attach the ribbon cable part #84204-58010 (you need to buy this) to the left control module and run it to the right side.

This is where I am still waiting to get my right control module, part #84244-35030-B0. Once I get it I will let you all know how it goes.

Mic

I bought the factory Mic part #86730-35020. If you remove the map light assembly on the left hand side under the headliner you will see a blue male plug. This is what the Mic plugs into. Take a look at both pics below and you will see what I am talking about. I don't know if this will work simply like this. Looking at some of j0mama's posts, I think I may need to connect pins from the deck to the amp, but I am not sure yet. I have heard the 2006 does not require this so I will let you guys know.

Apparently the mic mounts inside the sunglass holder. I ran it through and it is just loose in there. I will mount it permanently later once I get it working (IF)....

I just ordered my stuff to add Sirius.

After some research, I think this is what I need:

Sirius Fit Kit part # PTS31-33051

and

Sirius Base Kit part # PTS31-00052

If anyone notices anything I am doing wrong, or has answers to the things I am not sure of, please let us know!

Are you adding steering wheel controls? I am asking because I thought from other posts, It was not possible without a new Steering Wheel that all ready had the controls incorporated. If this is not the case, I would love to add them myself also. Any help is appreciated.

You can add the any of the steering wheel controls without a new steering wheel. But, if you have an SR5 without the audio controls on the left, you need a new airbag.

Alright gang I ran into my first two problems. Any advise would be appreciated.

1 - I am reading that the 2006 4Runner already has the Speed/Reverse sensor R12 plug loose behind the cluster. Anyone know where this is?

2 - This new R10 plug, which apparently I need to get my microphone working, looks to be quite an obstacle. First off, I don't have this plug in my car... (at least I don't think). As I mentioned above, I bought the factory Mic, but how to integrate it with this is beyond me. In one of j0mama's posts, he mentions this but the instructions are vague and I am not sure where to go.

It looks like that long plug is for vehicle's with JBL system. If you do not have JBL in your runner then you might need to contact OEMVALUE to ask them how.. Due to my 06 runner does not have the JBL either.. and waiting for OEM to reply before I will purchase a OEM NAV too..

Hey WKMotor, I appreciate the response but that's not the case... I do have the factory 10 Speaker JBL Synthesis system so that's not it. I think its more of an issue of whether or not you have the nav pre-installed or not. Keep checking the post, hopefully someone will have an answer!

Hello guys,

bluemotev asked me visit this thread so here I am.
I had installed 04 Solara Nav in my 04 Sienna (with Toyota external MIC kit w/ activation button & Eclipse Back-up CAmera which is pretty much the OEM Toyota camera) and now I have 07 Solara Nav (E7009) with fully working MIC (for Voice Command and Bluetooth), Voice Guidance, & Bluetooth as well. Still working on replacing my steering wheel switch pad for the Bluetooth ON/OFF button though. You're lucky you can just buy the right side switch pad. I have to buy the whole set (L, R, & ribbon cable) if I want the right side for my Sienna for $180.

As for a few question raised here, the connector designation R10, R16, etc. differes from vehicle to vehicle. The new R10 connector in 06 Sienna is NOT R10 in 07 Solara eventhough, they are the same connectors.
I believe the diagram you have here is one of diagrams I posted at SiennaClub forum from 06 Sienna.
Anyway, R10 connector is NOT present in my 04 Sienna either, nor in 05 since 07 Solara or 06 Sienna Nav (they are the same) are the new 5th Generation Nav systems & this new connector replaced 2 previously used connectors for MIC & Back-up Camera. I had to rip my previous connections for MIC & camera to wire them in R10 terminal. I'm having a very hard time finding one of these connectors so if anyone of can get one, I'd really appreciate it.

As for the MIC installation, I'm not sure if 06 4runner has this MIC option (or even Bluetooth) but from what I'm reading here, since you have the unused connector, you might but hard to tell without looking at the entire wiring diagram.
But you can certainly hook it directly to the R10 connector as I did with my MIC kit. But if you don't have the activation button (on steering wheel), the only way you can test it is to either use the Bluetooth feature or in the Diagnostic mode (to see how you can get into diag mode, check the above link).

YOu can also find the pin-outs for both MIC & activation button, AUX stereo input jack, etc. at the above link.

Now the speed, back-up, brake sensors...
1. I permanently grounded the brake sensor at the nav unit.
2. If you didn't purchase your vehicle with NAV option, you probably do not have the wiring/connector in your vehicle. I didn't have it in my Sienna eventhough it is the high-end trim model.

P.P.S. I just remembered something for the MIC to work. There are 2 pins (#12 & #18)you have to bridge in addition to the MIC wiring to get it to work. IT's also at the above link.

Sean - thanks so much for the info. Here is my latest update:

1 - Steering wheel switch was installed and works! However, I can't really use it considering I do not have the Mic wired up yet, or the voice output. Pending completion of those two items, and I should be all set. When the buttons are pressed, the radio responds there is just no sound ...

2 - I kind of installed the sirius today. Two problems I have faced here. First, for some reason not all the channels come in... Not sure whats up with that. Second, I had to remove what was plugged into R14 to plug in the Sirius reciever. That plug is marked RSA/Changer according to other forums. I am not sure what (if any) impact will come of removing what was plugged in there. Everything seems to work fine, which baffles me as to why there was something plugged in there if it had no use. I am sure it did something, just not sure what. I remember reading somewhere about a splitter, but not sure what thats for. Anyhow, here is a pic of my reformed steering wheel...


Now to work on the Mic and voice output!!!

That connector R14 is used by RSA (Rear Seat Audio) or RSE (Rear Seat Entertainment/DVD) or external CD changer or XM/Sirius.

In the 5th Generation Navigation Unit, they removed RSA feature. So I left it unplugged in my Sienna.

The Y-adaptor (or splitter) was used with the 4th Gen Nav systems to keep both RSA & XM... or to keep RSE with XM.

What color is your interior? Looks like STONE/Gray but is it fairly light or darker?
I need to buy the Bluetooth switch pad too but if I buy the Sienna part, it's gonna be around $170 since I can't just buy the Right side.

It is the stone gray. I think the B0 at the end of the part number is for that color. I would say its a really dark gray, but not quite black. I have seen some interiors that look almost black, mine isn't that dark...

how are you getting the voice output to work?

R10/R16 connectors

Can anyone of you guys look up the part #'s for R10 (new long connector for MIC & CAM) & R16 (blue - used to Aux stereo input) for 4Runner or any other toyota SUV's?

As I previously mentioned, the connector names like R10, R16 may differ from cars to cars. R10 on sienna, I believe, was N10 on Solara.

You may need to compare the connector charts for the photo & check on the Part # list.

I got the p/n's for both Sienna & Solara for those connectors but they're not even listed in Toyota Dealer part list to purchase.

Thanks Sean, thats how I plan to wire up my Mic. I am going to use that schematic above, however I am going to try with the factory mic, since I used the steering wheel controls I don't need the aftermarket push button one. Only problem is the wire colors are not the same. There is a red, black and gray wire and I am not sure which correlates with the wiring on the aftermarket mic. Any ideas?


My original hope, the male plug-in in the headliner it goes into, has blue, pink and white wires coming out of it so I don't think its for the Mic afterall, and if it is, I don't know where those wires go so I can pull them...

Do you know where the wires for speed/reverse are? I cannot find them...

You run wire from the R13 port of the Nav unit to S22 of the jbl amp. I believe its:

R13 Pin 11 - S22 Pin 23
R13 Pin 12 - S22 Pin 22
R13 Pin 13 ---SHIELD.
