Problem - the rear end of a 4th gen is pretty porky. It can drag pretty easy when doing trail driving. I know, my trucks rear gets a fair hammering especially with a load of camping gear in the back.
Problem - there is no product currently made to help minimise the affects of a less than ideal departure angle
Problem - to make a custom rear bumper requires lots of clever design and production skills beyond the scope of most people.
Solution - can't someone design either
a) a rear skid plate that basically covers the rear wheel and bolts or welds to the towbar or chassis rails and sweeps up at the sides towards the lower potion of the rear fenders. I dont think most offroaders require the side protection on the their 4th gens as much as the under protection at the rear, so no need to sweep the skids upwards past the rear fenders lowest point.
b) a tube style slider for each side, again either bolted or welded to the towbar or chassis rails. You might lose an inch of departure angle but if your sliding, big deal! I'd rather lose and inch and gain the ability to slide than not be able to slide and get damage instead.
Come on you design savy people. Get something on the ball for us. The market is just waiting for some clever Dick or Jane with a good idea.
Maybe I need to invest in some tubing and elbows and see what I can come up with. There's gotta be something!:awais: :artist:
