Fan Under the Passenger Seat

Can anyone tell me what the dome like fan under the front passenger seat is? It never seems to turn off, even when I shut off the air. It's annoying because when I do shut off the air there is still that noise like the air is on.

same issue

I have a 96 4runner - same thing - fan makes squeaking noise (but not always but a lot). The fan is not turned on in the back seat. Any ideas how to get to stop making the noise or running?
 
similar but different issue. I turned my heater on for the first time the other night and I heard a noise similar to celophane crinkling but much louder... also, when the fan is on full blast for heat my dash vibrates... any suggestions?

bring a blanket jk

maybe you should check the blower motor make sure the blades are clean and turning freely. If they have gunk or debris in them it may cause it to wobble and vibrate.
 
wait, there is a fan under the passanger seat? is this true for all models 3rd gen?
i have a load of emergency things stuffed under the passanger seat of my '02 4Runner. should i keep that entire area open?

All SR5s have them. It doesn't blow under the seat, it just blows the air that comes out of the vents in the back of the console.

Has anyone replaced the fan in the dash? Mine is squeaking like tweety bird.

I haven't replaced the blower motor in the dash but I've had it out on multiple occasions to clean out acorns (don't ask) from it. It's only a few screws and it should be a simple swap if that's the route you choose but it may be more expensive. It's probably worth taking the unit out and trying to find something to lubricate.
 
Not all SR5s had them (mine doesn't ) and it was an option or part of the option package. My amp resides where the fan would be but it would be a nice feature to have since heat circulation to the lower foot area could be better in the back.
 
I would like to ad the rear heater to mine. It takes forever to get warm back there. I don't know where the coolant lines are supposed to tap into. Mine is a Limited and doesn't have the heater.
 
I don't think the conversion is that simple. The ones that have the rear heater just have venting that runs under the seat to the fan and then venting that runs on each side to the rear of the center console if I remember right;there are no coolant line hookups.
 
There should be coolant lines running to rear heater core. I wouldn't think it should be that hard. Get the centerconsole and heater core and fan.
