Lift with X-REAS: spacers only? (FJ coils)

Disclaimer: I have searched extensively, but have not found a difinitive answer.

It is commonly accepted around here that if you have X-REAS and want to lift your truck, you have 2 options:

1) Install a spacer lift.

2) Disconnect X-REAS and replace with new coils and shocks.

I realize you would not want to overextend the XREAS shocks by pairing them with springs that are 3" taller. Is that the only reason why XREAS is limited to spacers only?

I ask because it is my understanding that FJ Cruiser coils are slightly stiffer than stock 4Runner coils and can be installed in their place. I have not found anyone who has switched only the coils, but supposedly the FJ springs will lift a 4Runner ~1".

As long as there is nothing physically preventing the install of different coils with the XREAS, I would like to attempt this swap because:

a) it would give the truck a slightly more aggressive stance

b) the truck would ride a little firmer, with slightly increased load carrying ability

c) it is a tame enough lift to still allow the XREAS to function properly

Are my assumtions correct in that a 1" lift would be OK for the XREAS shocks? Are there any other things preventing such a swap?

I'm not sure that OEM FJ cruiser coils are stiffer. I would think the FJ coils are SOFTER since the FJ is lighter AND it allows it to flex more for off road. You might want to confirm this before heading down this path.

I have traded emails with a member here who has installed the FJ coils in addition to his Revtek spacer lift. In comparison to the stock 4Runner coils, ha said the FJ's were substantially thicker. He gained about an inch of lift going from 4Runner coils+Revtek to FJ coils+Revtek. He also claimed that the floaty feeling he was experiencing with the Revtek went away and the front end felt more stable.

Im going to bring this back up to the top- still looking for a decent answer.

It is commonly said that spacer lifts are the only option if you want to keep the XREAS. Why?

From what Ive read, a set of OME coils (885) would lift the front of my V8 about 2". Unless Im misunderstanding something, neither the spacer lift nor longer coils would change how/where the shock is mounted. Is that correct? Why couldnt you put OME springs on a truck with XREAS? Wouldnt they have a similar effect as a 2" spacer lift?
