Sulfur Smell Is No More

Brought the Runner in for the TSB on Saturday to Riverhead Toyota on Long Island. 3 hours later the job was finished. After about an hour to get home and letting the new exhaust parts burn off any residue I tested her out. Opened all the windows including the tailgate window and drove with no more nasty fumes! Want to pass this on to anyone else that

It appears to have worked for mine too - did it about two weeks ago, but it's been so hot I haven't driven much lately with the rear window down!
 
I got to get this done , I NEVER put my back window down because of the stench. It a shame really because its a kick ass feature to have .

I complained to the dealer about it once before and they test drove it and said they couldn't smell anything.
 
Is this the old TSB or a new one? I've been using TopTier fuel from Shell and Texaco. It's been 7K miles since I used non-top tier gas (Exxon/Mobil) and I don't recall smelling it. Maybe I should switch for awhile and let the V8 rip.

TopTier fuel is the same price as non-toptier in my region.

I used nothing but top-tier & still had the little stinker!
 
Update
Following up on my 1st post, driving around on Sunday there were times that distinctive smell did showed up like an old friend but not like it use too. The TSB was definitely worth having done.
 
I also just got the TSB done. Its been about a week. At first there was a smoky burning odor coming from my exhaust shortly after the TSB, so I talked to the service manager and he said that it was normal and would be gone after 50 miles of driving...and sure enough after 50 miles of driving there is no more smell AT ALL!:D Put my back windown down today and stepped on it and didn't smell a thing! I heard someone getting worse gas mileage after the TSB but I have not noticed any difference at all...in fact a slight (very slight) improvement 15.5 mpg to 16 mpg...lol

Anyway, I highly recommend the TSB...just bear with the initial odors for 50 miles and your set. no more smell.
 
Even if it doesn't stink....I wouldn't drive around with the rear window down much. You're breathing in exhaust and associated gasses either way....
 
I had the TSB doen several months ago. I even marked my old pipes to make sure the dealer actually swapped it out. I still have the smell if I jackrabbit off the line from a full stop, but I can tell that it is not as bad. It really does not bother me all that much even though I know it is still there. Just one of those "I guess I'll live with it" things.
 
Sulfur??

My wife says she prefers the Sulfur smell over my own emissions...she likes the back window down @all times!!!

I'm actually taking my truck in next week to get the fix done, its bad enough that gas is so expensive i dont want smell it burn too!
 
The sulfur smell ended my date! I was out on Saturday nite, I picked up this girl from class who is a freakin knockout and I wanted to go out with her for a long time and I finally got the guts to ask her out. So anyways, after I picked her up we were driving to the movies and I accelerated to pass a car on the road, and sure enough about 10 seconds after that the sulfur smell came, and my heart dropped. She had a disgusted look on her face and told me she couldn't believe that I would fart in front of her. I tried to explain myself and tell her why the smell occurs but she wouldn't listen to me and demanded that i drive her home. So I turned around and drove he back home. The worst part is that on the way back, the sulfur smell came again! Then she told me not to talk to her again, and how she cant stand that I was so rude to fart around her on our first date, and that I have no manners. So now I'm not sure what to do. Should I call her and apologize? Do I sell my 4runner?

You got to be kidding! Would the 2nd date have been OK? :lmao:

If this is for real, I would show her this thread. Do you have her e-mail to send her a link?

Next thing I would do is schedule that puppy in to get the TSB catalytic converter changed. I did mine & while not totally eliminating the smell, at least it probably won't curl your date's nose hairs!
