Stock Dunlops out, New Michelin Cross Terrain On!

These tires lasted me about 29k miles and the road trip described in my other posting. However, yesterday I looked at my tire and it is developing cracks on it. There was one crack that concerned me however. What causes them? (Check out the pics)
Since Cost Co is having a sale on their tires I decided to change out my stock tires and go with the Michelin

The Ride feels SO much more smoother and quieter. However, I feel some vibration/different feel through the steering wheel. Does that mean I need an alignment? I had my alignment checked free at National Tire and Battery with the stock dunlops BEFORE the Colorado trip described in my other posting (off road posting). It was okay.
Does that mean with new tires and from the off road trip (moderate/easy) throw the alignment off?

the only time you need an alignment after a new tire install is if the tread wear of you old tire is not even.

Vibration indicates the tires are not balanced correctly. I'd wait a few more miles to see if it goes away, otherwise take it back and ask them to re-balance all four wheels. I think CostCo offers lifetime balancing.

The only way to tell if your alignment is out (which chances are it isn't) is to check for uneven tire wear. Another sign is if the car steers slightly in one direction or another when the steering wheel is straight. That's hard to gauge on many roads, however, because of the road camber and influence of wind.
 
Thanks everyone! The tire people said the old tire (Dunlops) had even wear. I will wait a little bit more to see if the vibrations are still there. Sometimes I notice it, sometimes I do not. thank you!

I'm going to be buying a set of Mich CT's at Costco in about a week ($200/tire out the door + a coupon for $60 off the total) and I know that they don't do alignments at Costco: so I want to make sure that I don't "NEED" to have an alignment as a rule with every new set of tires.

I am also replacing my stock dunlops with the CT's from costco soon. Probably tomorrow.

If you have even tread left on your old tires, and you have no alignment issues, then you should have no alignment issues/vibrations with the new set of tires.

If you do notice an issue, your new tires NEED to be balanced again.
 
I am sorry for the late replies. I vibrations are now gone. Maybe I wasn't use to the new tires or whatever, but do NOT notice it anymore. After about 2 months, these tires are still awesome!
 
Make sure you re-torque the wheels. Especially if it's been a couple of months. I think they torque @83lb-ft.
