I have a 1995 SR5 4X4 4Runner and it runs great but the antilock brake light comes on while driving. I guess it's time to replace the rear drive shaft speed sensor after numerous attempts to fix the Antilock Brake (ABS) light from coming on. The code blinks "33" which is the speed sensor. I couldn't find any shorts, brakes work great, shoes are adjusted properly, and no air bubbles in the brake lines. I've read posts that the speed sensor does go bad at 120K miles and causes the ABS light to come on. I'm at 113K miles.
Anybody have any idea on how hard it is to remove this sensor? Some say it is a pain...I don't know, it looks easy..one bolt and one connector but the spare tire are in the way. I hope I don't have to drop the tank. Anyone have a source for these? I see universal ones for around $75. Do they work?
