Buying a '94 4Runner, any specific problems/recalls I should be looking for?

After a long wait and totaling the car I was driving I think I may have finally found a 4Runner. '94 SR5 4x4 with 106k, auto, loaded... Are there any problems specific to this year or generation that I should specifically tell the mechanic to check for? Thanks,

head gasket......have a dealer run the VIN....if it hasnt been done, should be covered....toyota issued a "special service campaign" that would cover the costs.....think it covered up to early 95 models....dealer should be able to tell you..
 
Be sure to check for rust behind the bumper and molding.

and just about anywhere. You bound to find a little rust, hopefully it won't be a ton.

Wow, yeah. That pic reminded me, this 4Runner, doesn't come with rear headrests... the dealer claims that they weren't standard... any idea if this is true or do you think they just disapeared somewhere along the way? Thanks

The dealer is full of it. Believe it or not I have the original window sticker for my 93 and it does not say anywhere that they were some sort of extra.

Where did that truck come from the bottom of the dead sea:D .

I have never seen so much rust. your going to scare the crap out of TKH329.

I bought mine new in PA and has been through lots of salted roads in 11 years, not a spot of rust on it. if it was taken care of you should not have that kind of rust. I think Peter78 was just trying to tell you to look her over good.

Yeah, those pictures were a bit extreme. I have heard to look out for head gasket problems and some rust, so what the heck, I show a bad picture of rust.

The good news is that the 2nd generation is well built and is known to be very reliable. I noticed my neighbor just bought a 2nd generation 4Runner last week. Which of course he keeps outside even though he has a 2 car garage.
 
Thanks Peter78, I'll check it out tomorrow... I'm glad that those are the two worst things that you guys can think of, especially considering that the head gasket should be covered under recall (I believe). Thanks,

:D Peter, I can't believe you forgot to mention that the 2nd gen is also prone to roll overs under extreme conditions :p
