Tires: Revos vs. Michelin vs. Yoko

I have read and read and searched and searched, but was just hoping to get some new/fresh opinions on these three tires. I need to replace my Duncrap's and I am completely and utterly confused on what to purchase.

I was all set on Revo's but been reading some horror stories about mileage and these things only lasting 25-30k miles. I love the way they look and the performance aspect, but what is everyone getting (mileage-wise) on these tires? Seems like a lot of money for such little mileage. Best price I getting it $846 out the door at Discount Tire with a $75 AmEx card.

As for the Michelin's, seems like everyone loves them but my goodness they are so boring and plain looking. I have been looking at the LTX A/T 2's. They are like that "safe choice" you know you should make, but don't really want to. I have been getting a similiar price (minus gift card) on these to the Revo's but it sounds like they will last a ton longer, i.e., more bang for the buck!!!

Then the Yoko's are the tire I have been looking at. I think they look pretty good, read some good things and are about $700 out the door so they are much cheaper.

Any thoughts? Should I just pull the trigger on the Revo's and pray for more than 30K miles!!!!

I would get Michelin A/T-2 without a doubt. They are more aggressive looking in real life than in pictures. Apparently, according to "independent" tests, the A/T-2 outperformed REVO and Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor over all terrain.

REVOs are nice and would be my next choice in your case. Which Yokos are you looking at??

I was looking at the Geolander AT-S. The manager at the local tire shop had them on his F-250 and they looked real nice.

As my name indicates, I came from the Heep World and on my Heep's I had BFG AT KO's so I really like the aggressive looking tires.

I am faced with the same choice next week or the following. I am trying to decide between the Revos and the Yokos. It is hard to convince myself that the Revos are worth the extra dollars.

I am on my second set of Yokos on the Suburban and they have been great.

I don't like the Michelins (and besides which, the company is French so I boycott their products anyway).

The other tire I would consider is the Goodyear Triple Tred.

I think I am going with the Yokos but I haven't quite given up on the Revos.

Let us know what you decide.

Is it possible to have big nasty agressive looking tires without the loud road noise?

I like the Yoko AT-S for the price compared to the Revo and Mich.

BFG A/T KO's look pretty aggressive with no noticeable road noise trade off. Revo's are ugly and hard as a rock....I never really saw the appeal.

Since you're from "Buckey Country", you need to consider winter traction. From the reports here it doesn't sound like the Revos are good in snow.

I agree with Northof49...why not just go back to what you know...BFG AT KO?? It is snow rated and it looks great!

I really liked the BFG's, but two things are steering me away from them:

1) I wish I did, but I just don't do any off-roading so I don't think I need to go THAT aggressive.

2) I am trying to really stick with 265/65's. I know I can go 70's and a lot of people do, but I went up a size or two on my Grand and it just rode the same.

I am in the same boat. I'm looking to replace the Dunflops before the snow starts to fly here in Colorado and I'm looking for a good, all-around tire.

I was thinking about the new Michelin A/T 2's as well but I'm not sure about those. I was also considering the Yoko Geolander A/T S but haven't heard much about how they perform in the snow and from some of the reviews, they sound like a rougher, louder ride than others.

Like you Jeep to Yota, I'm looking to stick with the stock tire size, at least for this tire change. I don't want to buy a new spare and I BARELY have enough clearance with my snowboard rack to pull into my garage as it is.

So since I want to stay with the stock size, that eliminates the Goodyear Silent Armors that I was considering. I think that puts me back with the Revo's on the top of my list even though I know they won't perform as well as the GY SA's in the snow. The way I look at it, anything should be better than the Dunlops and since the Revo is a road friendly (where I spend most of the time) A/T tire, I might have to go with the Revo's.

For the record: I have close to 45k on my Revos. While I'm not usually an aggressive driver, they do get a pretty work out. They have spent about a quarter of their life towing a 25' travel trailer (highway). I have had them offroad, in probably more serious stuff (class 5) than most people on here would take their stock 4Runner. Yes, there's a few chunks out of them, but nothing real serious.

They have never had ANY problems, not even a flat! The things stick to the road like glue, even in the rain. They also did just fine in the snow (the very few times encountered in AZ), where others needed chains.

They still have real good tread, and the Firestone dealer agreed I probably have another 15k before it gets anywhere near the wear bars - so I'm expecting close to 60k.

I want to stay with stock size (for towing torque mainly), so will likely go with either the Revos again, or the new Michelin. Revos are more pricey these days than the Mickies, by about 10% (and with the bi-annual Costco coupon).

While I hate paying that much, both are considered premium tires. Doggone weird 17' size anyway! (but not quite as expensive as the Z rated performance tires for wife's old 300Z - why she had to have something rated above 149 MPH I'll never know! Maybe she thought Z tires just went on a Z - kinda like when I put Pathfinders on my Pathfinder - but I digress)

Anyways, onto the tire situation. I am still so confused. As I said I like the REVO's, but don't want to pay $800 for 30k.

Any REVO owners out there that can help all of us future tire buyers with mileage estimates?

Well, I think I am going away from the norm here and think I am going to go with the YOKO's. I went and looked at the Michelin A/T 2's and while they looked "ok", I just really like the YOKO's and the guys at Discount Tire could have said better things about them. I like the aggressive trend and the price!!!

Now I will say they heard some good things about the Michelin's but said they are SOO new they haven't installed many sets yet.

Need to pull the trigger soon, so appreciate any last minute thoughts.

This is long so bear with me.
I will stick up for the revo's here. I live in NM but travel to CO every 6 weeks or so and experienced all the heavy snow that you had last year. I was visiting my sister near Monument, CO in Dec and were drivng on hwy 105 between I-25 and hwy 83. It had been snowing all day and I had been visiting a freind. We left the house around 4pm and took the 2 lane heading east. We crested a hill and a Penske truck was coming down from the opposite direction. We kept driving towards each other and it was obvious that he was driving in the middle of the 2 roads and was not going to get over. So I slowed down and drove off into the snow covered shoulder which also dropped away from the road about a foot. I forgot to engage the center differential lock so I spun to a stop when the atrac engaged. I was sitting in between 12-16 inches of snow and I engaged the center diff lock. I was moving but I could not get out. I put it in 4 low and moved the tires to the left and right, put in reverse and drive again and finally was able to break free and get back on the road. Good thing too, because a wrangler was slowing down and I knew he was going to offer to pull me out. Luckily I didn't have to use his services and hear him bad mouth the 4runner. Later that night, my father was trying to leave an indoor roping class with his f350 and a 4 horse trailer, he asked if I could scout out the roads that he would take to get back to the I-25. So I dug out the 4runner with my brother in law and we left his house. The drifts were the biggest concern as they were over 5 feet at some people's houses and driveways but the roads were plowed for 1 lane use but their were drifts of 1-2ft that were between 4-6 ft long that you had to use momentum to get thourgh. Also, once you got out of the lane then you were in 1-2 ft of snow. Along the way, there were cars and trucks of all makes and models along the sides of the roads. The only other vehicle we saw that wasn't stuck that night was a 3rd gen 4runner and a El Paso County search and rescue Hummer h3 that had tank treads instead of tires. We were next to each other and asked how the roads were in the vicinity and he said that he didn't think we would have too much trouble as long as we had good at or snow tires with and kept it in 4 low. We asked how much it cost for that set up and he said about 100k My dad got out ok and we got home fine as well. That was a fun evening. Well, it snowed for another day-day and half and the plows didn't come through for another day but my sisters next door neighbor's 1st gen tacoma double cab was abandodned on the side of the road so we all went to dig it out. I tried driving the 4runner to it but I did finally get sutck in a snow drift that was up to the body cladding on the doors and 40 feet long. I made it about 15ft into that before I high centered and lost traction. So, I don't neccisarily think that revo's are the best snow tire but they have done well for me. We do 90% highway driving and driving between Co Springs and Albuquerque we try to keep it between 82-87 mph. We still get around 18mpg at that speed and the road noise is relatively quiet. I was looking for a good all around tire that wasn't too noisy and didn't drop my mpg and the revo is the best at doing that. If you are always in deep snow/mud/sand then this isn't your tire. I also have no complaints about driving in the rain. We slow down to safe distances between people but I have no problems passing and worrying about hydroplaing in the grooves where the water collects. But I do usually engage 4hi so that atrac has 4 wheels to power if it needs to. Sorry for the length but no one had said too much in this thread to defend the revo perfomance.

One last thing I forgot to address is that I bought the revos at 42k ish in June 06 and I have 72k on the 4unner now. I have about half the tread life left and expect to put another 25k on them, maybe a little less. One other nice thing about the revo's and even the silent armour is that you can try for 30 days and return them with no penalty if you don't like them. I did this with the silent armour first and then returned them and bought the revo's. I went through discount tire.

I lived and worked in the Navajo and came east to Abq. on the road that leads to the 40 from Ganado there is a highway which rises from 4400 to 8200 over to Gallup. I encountered conditions in my trip several times where pleasant weather at the start turned to blizzard at the summit. I only had my 2WD at the time running Michelins LTX MS. They were ok but not much to write home about in the snow despite their billing.... but did alright. Keeping up with a snow track Hummer. gotta love that.
