It cleared up, so I drove down to the river and took some pics! I'm too lazy to block out the plate number, and well... what's it matter anyways!

Hey DonnyB,

I noticed in the sticky picture thread you're considering changing the gauge cluster light and maybe radio. Rather that post mod related info through that thread, I thought post info directly in your thread. I recall seeing these threads for the mod being done on a 2005+ Tacoma over on ToyotaNation. Hopefully, they'll help out.

Gauge cluster color change.

um.......... i may consider replacing all my cluster amber to those white led soon. looks a lot like the GX cluster, at least.

my first "mod"

Not much of a mod, but I had to get rid of them flimsy dealer license plate frames.
I bought 2 license plate mounting kits, so that they'd be mounted on a firmer surface, plus I didn't like the idea that my plate could vibrate/hit off the painted surfaces of the vehicle while in motion or when closing a door/rear tailgate.
I picked up 2 stainless steel frames. I usually get the metal ones (on my last car I had the shark teeth frame) but they always corrode on me after a year or so.
I got 8 plastic license plate screws, which 4 had to be cut short for the bottom of the plates so that the bracket went flush to the body.
Finally, I picked up these little silver screw head covers that go over the top for a nice clean look.

Total cost: $42.72
Time to install: ~10 minutes

Did you have to drill into the read hatch? Here in CA we do not have, well I do not have the additional holes on the rear hatch... I only have 2 holes and like you I hate when I shut the hatch and the plate rattles... I have added a tiny piece of foam which prevents the rattle...

Easy mods excite me too, so ur not the only 1 lol :biggrin2:

Oh no! No drilling into my baby! I only had 2 holes on the front and rear as well.
What I did.. I bought plastic screws (so they won't rust or corrode) and I cut the ones on the bottom of the plates (both front and rear plates) short, so they are just holding the plate to the bracket and they don't protrude beyond the back of the bracket. This kept the plate on pretty solid-like. It pretty much eliminated the rattle 'cause I usually close my doors and tailgates gently. However, I like your idea with the foam padding. I will have to do that for those times that my tailgate isn't shut so gently 'cause if I do close it on the harder side it makes a 'lillllll hmm noise.. I wouldn't even say rattle, more of a thutter lol ..there's a difference! :p

here's a picture (that I left out of my original post) of what I bought except I forgot to put the bracket in the photo. I bought it all at a local store, Advance Auto Parts:

No way! I say you should keep your 4Runner 'cause I THINK it's the best looking 3rd gen 4Runner* around! ...for on-road/daily driving anyways! Keep it!!! :)
 
The material used on the seats looks different than my SE does. What does it feel like? I don't really like the material used on my '05 because everything sticks to it!

I also like the darker trim on the interior. :D

I only sat in a '07 4Runner and I didn't notice a difference besides the different color ('07 was a SR5 and not a SE). I definitely like the trim too, esp. on the doors.
 
my runner's first snow

I've sooo been slacking on the mods lately... (damn work!) but on a positive note... it snowed today! I was so excited when I got out of work! I couldn't wait to play with the 4x4 in some fresh pow :D
I also couldn't pass up my baby's first snow photo op:

Anywho.. It handles so well and is so smooth, even on snow, I love it! I can't wait for some big snow to fall! :D

Hey man, that ain't cool. :p Live cam pics at my resort.

The upper parts of the mountains at my resort is still dirt, DIRT and brown. I should bring my bike up there instead of my board. Just man made stuff on the bottom half, five chairs (two of them don't count one is the adult carpet and another is the gondola) open and a bunch of bunny slope trails. You guys in the other parts of the country are lucky. I'll give up the sunshine and warm weather any day of the week for some snow. I need to get my "fix". Mother nature needs to bring some of that powder to NorCal. Let it snow, please!

Awesome pic, could work for the banner that others have complained about. Let us know how beneficial the VSC off button is. :)

Wow, that does suck! As long as it snows in N. Cal by February, I'll be happy anyways. I'll hopefully be doing a 3 week roadtrip out that way stopping in Colorado, Utah, and California.
Opening day here is Dec. 5th for our local resort... however... it's basically all man made ice, i mean, snow. it's also only about a 350 foot vertical drop, so nothing too exciting :( plus, i believe they're only opening 5 runs. I need to move out West! If only I could find a job in the SLC area of Utah or something near Mammoth in Cali.. *sigh* ..anyone want to hook me up?? :D
p.s. I don't know what good use you could get out of the vsc off switch, but it's fun for in the parking lots when they're full of fresh snow and ice :)

another p.s. Uneek, do you board or do you ski? Maybe we could meet up on the mountain one of these days.
