Erwin from the BMW forums (bimmerboard.com) posted this, and I borrowed it, since it is very informative for us 4Runner owners as well. I already made the mistake of investing $150 on Sylvania Silverstar Ultras on my 05 4Runner, and another $100 on my BMW. I wish I had read this earlier. I used the Osram Sylvania +50's on my 99 Volvo S80 and they were awesome, but I confess I was seduced by the blue tint on the Silverstar Ultras

Those are some pretty cool articles. Do you know of a source for the +50's? and are they avail in H11's?

The Silverstar Ultra definelty are an improvement over the regular Silverstars but still only marginally better in the wet but definelty worth the upgrade. I saw 3 years from my original SSs so hopefully these treat me well too.

$150 on Ultras? Where you get them? My local Checkers had them for under $50/pair.
 
I paid $150 because they are $50/pair (low beams, high beams & fog lamp bulbs). I'm in Southern California. I have read many stories regarding the short life of the Silverstars, but mine did last me well over 2 years on my BMW and I changed them only because they were looking dim, not because they burned out. From what I have read about the Ultra's, their improvement is that they are supposed to last longer that the regular Silverstars.

With regard to the Orsam Silverstar +50's, they are mainly marketed in Europe, (Osram is the European parent company of Sylvania) but there are some businesses that sell them in the US. I have only been able to find them online - mainly through ebay & amazon. Since I am not familiar with H11 bulbs, I've never really checked to see their availability, but a quick seach on either ebay found these:

I'm not one to go much for claims such as "90% more lighting" but a little online research can help you make an informed decision.

Thank you for the welcome note. I have been reading the forums since I bought my 4Runner in November, but had a hard time activating my account, haha. I have learned a lot though. I'm hoping they'll be a page dedicated to the 4th Gen's sometime soon.
 
Ahh,I didn't know they had the fogs out yet too so that explains the extra $50.

I did a side by side comparison between the regular and the Ultras and the Ultras are a bit brighter and if they last longer than that's a nice plus.

I run Optilux Extreme Yellow Xenon H3s in my fogs and I got them for $27 shipped and they are so much better than the Silverstars I had and those were $18/each.
