Guess what I just pulled out of the snow?

A UPS truck!!! The big brown truck got rescued by my 3rd gen 4Runner. He was blocking the street to my kids daycare, so I was able to get around and hook him up. The driver said "you can't pull me out with that". I said" maybe not, but lets give it a try" Soon there was a Sheriff watching in almost as much amazement as the UPS guy. Once I got him un-stuck and onto the road he kept spinning his wheels and going nowhere. Back to the strap and I hauled his ass about an 1/8th of a mile out to the main road. He wanted my phone number to give his supervisor, and the sheriff was in shock. As soon as I figure out how to get the pics off my phone I will post them up. BAD ASS folks, all I can say is BAD ASS.

Thats pretty crazy that you were able to pull that sucker out. Unbelievable! You carry a towstrap with you at all times? I guess living in snow, you have to be prepared eh?
 
Yeah, I actually carry 2 straps with me at all times along with some other recovery gear.

This was about an hour later, not nearly as cool but the chick was pretty hot.

Do you have chains on, or are my eyes playing tricks on me? Those pics just don't do any justice.

You should start a business with the T4R, pulling stuck cars out.

What makes you think that we want to see her car?! Dude, you need to take picture of HER!!!

Like you, i carry recovery stuff in my SUV all the time...but back to main topic, your camera better have ran out of battery for you not to take her picture!!:mad:
 
That's sweet. What kind of tires do you have, seems like you had to have great traction to pull one of those sucker out.
 
I got Firestone Destination A/T's with about 35k hard miles on them. They still get me through the mud pretty good to.

By the way, that snow doesn't look very deep or is it just the pics. Why are others getting stuck?
 
The red car just couldn't make it up that little incline, after waiting about 5 minutes it was time to get the show on the road. We got about 12", here is a pic about 2 minutes before the UPS truck.

Wow, thats amazing. way to go dude! nice of you to pull the Ups guy out! and help out the damzel in distress. I'm proud to be the owner of a 4runner, even more so when we use our awesome trucks to help people out!

Stuck UPS Truck


Many years ago, I used to drive for FedEx and was in a 24-foot step van that got stuck. Someone driving a smaller vehicle was "too far over" on my side of a two-lane road, so I (stupidly) pulled a bit on the shoulder and my right tires got stuck quickly. My truck did not have a limited-slip differential, unfortunately.

I was trying to dig my way out (always carried a spade shovel during snowy weather) and some chap in a little Toyota 4x4 pickup truck came by and offered to pull me out. It was just a 4-banger with a stick shift, but he only had to pull my truck about two feet.

Shazam! It actually worked. I offered to pay the guy, but he declined the money saying that he wanted some 'good karma' headed his way. Ironically, I had jump-started someone's car with my FedEx truck two days earlier and had refused an offer of payment......so I was the recipient of the good karma that time!

I can sympathize with the UPS driver and you can rest assured knowing that he was very grateful. Most people have no idea of how much pressure you are under in that type of job!

Thanks for the update on the conditions. Couldn't tell there was an incline.

My mantra for driving in snow is "forward momentum" whenever possible. You can't always keep moving because of others but I try to take them out of the equation. That may mean crawling slow in stop and go with a few car lengths to the guy in front, even (very) slow rolling stops, just keep moving. Never had a problem before and now with the T4R it's even easier. We definitely have the right equipment.

I agree on that. No wonder their nickname around here is UnderPaid Slaves. Not sure about elsewhere but Brown is the worst of the courier companies.

Where did you connect a tow strap on the small red Mitsubishi (?) so that you could pull it out without damaging it? Or the UPS truck, for that matter?
