Probably not - I don't often park in more urban areas, so I think the risk is low for me.

If I hear about an increase of thefts in my area, then I'll seriously consider it.
 
Wait a minute... what is to stop a thief from just cutting at the ends of the pipes and still making off with the cats and catclamp?

^i agree, if they really want the cat, then they will make off with a little more pipe and cat-clamp.

but i guess you can view it as more trouble than your neighbor's car.
 
Catkey rental? Like you have to send it back to them? WTF what if you need to get your cat off? You have to send away for the tool again? If you do, that's stupid.

Exactly. As I understand it, most thieves are simply sawing through the exhaust system, not taking the time to unbolt the cat from the exhaust system.

With the $250 catclamp in place, now they can sell your cat and then resell the catclamp on ebay!

Well from what it says the "cage" that it makes also secures it to the frame of your truck so even if they saw the exhaust in theory the cat would stay attached to your truck.

True, but I'm thinking they can cut the cables with whatever tool they used to cut the pipe.
 
I didn't actually see that it was locked to the frame before.

The aircraft cable is almost impossible to cut without using industrial machines thus creating too much work for a thief in a hurry

The question is do thieves carry around industrial tools? Eh, something is better than nothing... doesn't the 4th gen have 2 cats? SO is it 250per, or 250 gets both covered?

That's what I am wondering too, and what do they consider industrial tools? From the pics it looks like a good set of bolt cutters can take those cables out.
 
Mr Hellaciously Awesome, Thank you for your interest in the Catclamp, I need to know what kind of vehicle you have. please fill out the customer data sheet for each cat and get it back to me asap. I need the info to give you a firm price. The Catclamp is universal fit but we need to verify a few dimensions. The Catclamp cage is attached to the vehicle frame with the aircraft cable. The thief wont even attempt to remove it. It would be way too much work. Also the Catclamp has your VIN# on it in a hidden place and the thief knows if he takes it he has traceable property. I emailed them about what is stopping them from stealing the cat clamp, and I recieved this email. Definitely sounds like I'll be picking one up once I get paid. And call me old fashioned...but I like that its made in the USA. (Ironic... I KNOW :bigok: )
 
I guess if you live in an area where this is a problem but for me I'll just take my chances and it is covered by insurance if it is stolen.

So what if we have to take the cat clamp off? Are we going to have to "rent" some special tool from them like it was stated earlier in the thread?
 
After recently dealing with this on our '97 4R, I do not want to go through it again. Apparently cat theft has become a major issue for 4R owners in our area.

If you insurance deductible is low enough to cover the cost of a new cat, you're already being ripped off and just don't know it.

I've been driving for 30 years and have never been involved in an accident and haven't had a ticket in 25 years. I spend less that $750 a year to insure my 4Runner and that is with a 0 decuctable for comprehensive coverage. I don't think it's a rip off.
