I went to the dealer this morning to have a a few problems fixed.

I asked them to fix the following:

fix front end droning noise that occurs when driving @ 70mph

Fix sun roof rattle (2nd request) (TSB)

Fix drive train thump that occurs when accelerating from a stop (2nd request) last time they lubed the u-joints.

Fix drivers seat squeak (TSB)

Fix rear cup holder rattle (TSB)

Adjust parking brake - not holding vehicle on a hill

Change oil and filter

The c/s rep at the dealership told me that the rattles were normal. Its a truck he said. HA! And he was very surprised I has these problems.I told him there was a TSB for each noise condition I had requested that be fixed.

I asked him if they execute TSBs on the vehicles when the come in for service and he said no.

Is it a requirement by Toyota that TSBs be executed for a vehicle when it is brought in for service? or must I identify a problem first?

The c/s rep also told me that they would be unable to test drive my vehicle @ 70mph as the Max speed limit in NYC is 50mph. I told him that I routinely drive in upstate NY & NJ where the speed limits reach 65. He didn't seem to even want to document it. But I was adamant and he finally relented and documented the problem.
I had to use the words "lemon law".

I know he will be unable to fix the droning noise but I just want to have it documented a few times in case I decide to go lemon law. I doubt I will.

Your correct ... According to the West Coast Dealers, the TSB's are only used if they can't figure out what is causing the problem.

I have heard the same crap as you. So has Vin. But, hang tight, and don't give up!! Keep all your doc's! This is a bunch of crap, and I really do not think that we (As owners) should have to put up with this stuff! KEEP ON THEM!!!!

As for the MPH thing, that's crap! Here in Cali, the HWY 5 MPH is 70. Tell him you were here! ;-)

Best wishes and KEEP ON THEM!

update

They want $89.95 to adjust my parking brake. I was under the impression that adjustments were covered for 12000 mi, is that not the case?

They refuse to test drive the vehicle @70mph.

They said that the drivetrain thump was not found.

How about telling the dealer that you want to drive the truck with a service rep in it? Are there any roads around where the dealer is that you can hit 70 mph?

What type of bs answer is that with the parking brake? If it is not holding the truck on a hill, there is something wrong with it. Shouldn't that be under warranty?

Call and talk to the Service manager or the General manager. Be nice and ask for their help. If they don't step up call Toyota and ask for their help to find another dealer.

JJ811, I am very familar with the Toyota dealers in the New York and New Jersey area. Which dealer is giving you troubles? I think I may know the answer!! :p

I hope that you will get your problems resolved. I have had several problems with my 4runner which I have posted here previously.

Regarding the rattles:
My 4runner developed the moonroof rattle and that was resolved. However a new ratttle started which sounded like a rolling marble. Brought it in for an oil change and also the sound but no one heard it. Went for a drive with a tech and we drove down streets where I had heard the sound. Luckily, the dealer is near where I live and the sound was most obvious down a nearby cross street. This time they added extra insulation to the headliner. Resolved for a very short period of time. Third time around and after going for another drive with me they contacted Toyota for a consultation. This time the sub-base assembly was to be replaced. This was just completed and I hope this does the trick. I have to say that my dealer really tries hard to resolve all issues. Most of the service consultants and the service manager have been cooperative and willing to listen and try to make things right. They had the truck for two days this last time-had to replace carpet (retaining ring for carpet clip would not stay in place) in addition to stopping rattle. When I picked up the car it had been washed AND waxed and interior cleaned.

Definitely take a tech or service consultant with you for a drive. Talk to the service manager. Continue to tell them the problems you are having and bring the vehicle in for these so that they will HAVE to document the issues. If there are any other Toyota dealers in your area, you may want to try to see if they are more cooperative.

Best of luck.

If the vehicle is still under warranty, you can take it to ANY Toy dealer. I think you can also search Recalls and TSBs on the NHTSA.gov web page. Good luck.
