My pony got new shoes today! And maybe some FJ rims...

Ok, so I'm starting to get some warped rotors, but wanted to make sure that's all that was going on. So stopped into the dealership. (Have to have rotors machined...grrr. Any reccomendations for the Sac. area to do this at?) Whilst they were looking at the rotors, I got to jawing with a friend of mine who works there. I am going on this big 4 wheeling trip, and MUST get rid of the fancy AR rims and Toyo Proxes ST performance tires. He told me of a contact just up the road, and that this guy does all the used rims trade off's for the dealership. He said the owner would treat me right.

So I went in and the guy immediately said "Well what do you want and I'll see what we can do." I had the option of the stock 17" rims for the SE, Limited, or FJ's. All polished chrome of course. Plus he said he'd put a brand new set of Nitto Terra Grapplers on for me. Oh, and the grand total? Nadda, zip, zero. Which is really affordable to me right now! He did tell me though if I went with the FJ's, I have to toss in $100 since he paid more for them. That and they are brand new, never used, taken right off a new FJ. So I had them put on the Limited rims with the Nitto's, which I know ya all have seen before, but I did take pics. I can post later if you want. Anyway, the story gets better and here is where I'd like reponses from others. My brother has given me stock 16" Tacoma rims. If I give the owner of this tire shop these 16" rims, I can get those FJ rims for no cost. They are NOT the dark grey TRD ones like I've seen on a few T4R's here, but the other ones with the Toyota emblem in the center.
What do you guys think??? Oh and I guess I need to change my siggy now.

Wait what!?!?! Can I get this guys number? I have some rims I can trade this guy for tires!

Well I'll def take a PM. ANd that sounds like you got a sweet deal!!! I just thought I got a pretty good deal 5 spankin new FJ's with 20mi on them for 250... but dang. Yours takes the cake! :bigok:

So what's the word on the FJ rims...or stay with the nice Limited ones? My brother was thinking that with my 45% used Proxes, new AR rims, and if I top it all off with the 16" stock Tacoma rims, the guy is still making out. I was told that set up with the 18" AR rims & Toyo tires was at least a $900 sales tag for the former owner. But I don't really care, I didn't write that check! The Limited rims look nice and all...but I'm really leaning towards those FJ's! :biggrin2:

Ok so I found the other members photos of the FJ rims on their T4R's. I really like the wider stance. My question to those members, if they read this thread, have you noticed anything now after having the 15mm difference? I hope those Grapplers aren't going to be tossing stuff and scratching the paint, is what I'm getting at.

I have some FJ rims on my runner, and they look great. The 15mm offset fills out the wheel well just enough for me without being too extreme....I didnt really want to go the spacer route. Anyway, I have not noticed any increase in road debris hitting the vehicle. Looking from behind, the mudflaps still stick out far enough to block most of what is kicked up. All that being said I did notice last week driving home in a snowstorm (yes, it is still snowing here in the CO mountains) that there was a lot of snow build up in the wheel wells, and the tire would rub when I would turn sharply. I think the offset makes the wheel a little closer to the wheel well when turning...I also have 270 r17s which add to this.

So anyway... my advice is to get them.... I really doubt you will be dissappointed.

the FJ wheels look great on the t4r in my opinion

and I have the terra grapplers and they are some great tires both on and off road

all and all this sounds like quite the deal for you

i ran a set of 6spoke FJ's on my 05 ltd for a while but decided that I liked the ltd or sport 4runners better.. the FJ's looked a little too basic.

I sold em (450.00) and went back to the orig ltd rims.

I do like the offset of the FJ wheels.

I haven't decided about the FJ rims. My brother brought up that the difference in the 15mm may cause stress on my T4R, as it wasn't designed the same as the FJ for the wider stance. I'm hoping one of the others who have put FJ rims on their SUV, if anything they've experienced, would back up my brothers worries or not. Anyway, evidence below of how much nicer my 4wd looks now. The Nitto's fill up the wheel well, and IMHO makes it look like a true 4x4! I don't mind the 18" rims and lower profile, but that's just not who I am. I'm a country girl not a pavement lover!!

I have (via the forums) had lots of discussions and read about the extra stress caused by the wider stance. The consensus on the T4R seems to be that nobody is having problems with the Spidertrax 1.25" spacers which increase the track by 2.5" total. The FJ rims will increase the track by about 30mm (IIRC). 30mm is only a little over an inch. The guys who use the 1.25 Spidertrax generall have lifts and bigger tire than you but most still have the stock balljoints, tie-rods etc. and if they're not having trouble then you would be fine. I wish I could do some tires and FJ rims. It's just not in the cards right now for me

Good arguments can be made for 16" and/or 17". The TRD FJ wheels are 16" and have a different look and they're awesome on certain color T4R's. I, personally, am all about slightly tweaked stock and would love some 17" rims similar to my stock ones but with a more favorable offset which is the FJ 17"ers.

I don't want 16" rims. The FJ rims that I have access to ARE 17" rims, just like the Limited ones I ended up getting.
