XenonDepot Xtreme Digital HID 3000k (lots of pics)

Here's some pictures of XenonDepot's Xtreme Digital HID 3000k installed in fogs. There was much personal debate if I should get a cheap kit or pay more a quality kit. It's for fogs and it wouldn't be used unless in foul weather. But after a while of going back and forth, I decided I bought a 4Runner because of Toyota's quality (even though they slipped, but still above others) and why should I settle for less with accessories. Another reason for going with a XD kit is the quality of their kits and they supply wiring harnesses. It's possible maybe it's an overkill, but why take a chance. With each harness individually fuses, should one the wiring get snagged or grounded, it's a fuse that's blown and no harm can be done to vehicle's electrical system.

I've purchased from XD before and it was a smooth and super easy transaction. I have no reservations of going back to XD and highly recommended them before and even more so now. The only difference this time was I had more interaction with Steve, aka XenonDepot on the forum, in regards obtaining the newer style wiring harness for my other car prior to ordering. Steve took care of that. Steve and XD is one of the most respected and professional retailers out there, every other retailer should model their business practices after them.

A special thanks to Steve for addressing my concerns and questions, as well as helping a few members out.

BTW, I have no affliation to XD or Steve other than being a happy and satisfied repeat customer.

Installation is simple just like all the HID kits. The only part that was a little difficult is the 3000k burners are a bit more snug than OEM halogen bulbs when putting them into the fogs. This isn't even a problem and I see it as a good thing as the seal with the foglight housing is even tighter sealing out moisture, since the fog area can get more wet than the headlights.

All of the pictures have no post editing done in Photoshop. The only editing done is resizing, signature and cropping.

The first seven are taken with a point and shoot in full auto mode, cropping were done with these.

The last eight with the 4Runner are taken with a slow shutter speed to get the proper exposure and no flash. I will have to check, but IIRC they were all done in shutter priority mode. (I was playing around with aperture priority earlier before the pics were taken.) No cropping done with these.

If anyone wants info on camera settings, I'll post the EXIF data from the images.

Your pictures are awesome. I have Canon G7 and didn't know how to use it to its full capacity. Those pictures look nice.

They were taken in San Francisco at about 11:30pm to midnight. There's not many people out, but a few passed by and probably a few bums in the park making sounds and talking to him or herself.

Did you change the light unit on your fog light or you use the original fog light unit from the factory?

Do you mean a retrofit? No, no retrofit was done. It's the stock fog housing on 2006+.

Do you have HIDs replacing your headlights too?

How do the fogs do with the on-off motion when turning on your high beams? Is there a delay in getting the maximum light when you turn them on and off?

Where did you hide the wires from the install?



I have HIDs as headlights, but am not sure about them for fogs yet.

I have XenonDepot's 4300k Philips kit for my low beams.

There is still the normal couple second warm up time with the fogs. I haven't observed the fogs yet to see what the color shift is, on the 4300k it goes from a blueish color to white.

There are two snap ring clips beneath each headlight behind the headlight buckets. I took the extra wiring and tucked inside the rings there. There wasn't much extra wire for the passenger side, the wiring is about perfect length, the only extra wiring are from the ballast. There's a little more wiring left from the harness on the driver's side, but not too much when it's routed behind the battery between the fuse box and alone the side of the fender.

Can you post "How To Install" these?

I didn't want to write another "how to," so I didn't take any pictures of the install--not to mention, I'm lazy. But member 4RunnerRon covered it in great detail in his thread. My install setup is just like his.

From the pictures on page one this is the first 4300K low / 3000K fog HID setup I've seen that when looking at the drivers view with both on the light output isn't all yellow. For those of you who have this setup I have a couple questions. First do you drive with both your low and fogs on all the time with the color temperature difference? Do most people who drive with both low and fog lights on color match? I've seen some pictures that look like if you have 4300K low beams on and also 3000K fogs on the overall output from the drivers perspective looks yellow. Here's an example where both on look yellow instead of white. Is it expected that white low beams will be washed out by the yellow when you have dedicated fogs (3000K)? If this is expected dedicated fogs should only be used when needed.
