Tacoma Manual in 4th Gen 4Runner

Hey,

Just out of curiosity, think the Tacoma or FJ Manual tranny can fit in the V6 4Runner since they use the same engine? I doubt I'd ever do a swap even if it could be done cause I wouldn't be willing to pay $40K for a 4Runner only to have them take it apart, but I've always just been curious to see if that's an option.

Anything is possible. I'm sure it could be converted using tacoma and/or FJ parts, the thought of doing it always crosses my mind. The cost effectiveness of the conversion is questionable. Some major fabrication would definitely be required. If time and money was irrelivent; I would allready have a manual trans in my 4th gen. Just my .02
 
physically putting the manual trans in, is actually the easy part of conversions like this. What you really need to look into are the impact on the electrical. ECU's are very often different, and not just the engine ECU, but the ABS, and cruise control as well. I don't know the electrical system in these vehicles but some research on the TIS site would give you a better idea.
