Randon questions on Wheels and others.

All,
I hate my 4runners stance right now. It looks like a low rider. I need new wheels. Right now it's some spokes with 265/70R16 Michelin LTX MS. I may go to a 285 later, would I need to lift it? Are coil spacers ok from Daystar?
What was stock size on 1996 T4R?
And, what size (back space/wheel bolt) Cragar Soft 8's should I get? I hate how the tires stick out past the body right now

if you hate how your tires stick out past the body, why would you opt for a wider tire?
do you plan on going offroad? if not, i would go for one inch spacers, with 265/75/16
 
Are you current wheels factory?

They above posters are correct that a 285 series tire is roughly 1" wider than what you are currently running. With the new wheels I would go with a backspacing of about 4.5". That should put your tires about even with the body (provided you do not have Limited or the larger painted SR5 flares..) Then when you get your tires look into a 255/85/r16. This will give you a 33" tire while still keeping close to the same width as your current setup.

BTW, the size you have is stock on all 4Runners that came factory with 16" wheels. See the label on the inside of your drivers door jamb for the factory wheel/tire size.
 
No, it's got these monster backspaced 'gangsta wheels' that I hate, and I plan to replace with cragar soft 8, and I was curious as to what backspace I need to not rub and what wheel lug a 4runner is. The tires are ok for now. Yes, I know a 285 is wider, but I'm not talking about tire width. I'm a Jeep guy who has a yoda for a DD.

Well if it were me, I would get the cragers that you want in a 16x7 with about 4.75 backspacing (stock is like 4.638 or something) and the lug pattern you want is 6x5.5.

daystars would let you get 285s on there or any other lift thats around 3 inches. coil spacers are alright as far as i understand if it stays on pavement. if you plan to off-road look into a toytec or oldman emu lift. you need a 6x5.5 cragar wheel. backspace i believe is a 4.0 on the 16x7 rim but i could be wrong.

The most off road it will do is just logging roads and the such. I'm not gonna get it up in twisties and lift a tire.

Last Q, can I ditch the air dam up front? Or will it reduce performance? I have a Warn multi mount hitch for my winch, and the plastic valance seems to get in the way.

If those are your only options, I would go with 5" being that you don't have fender flares. 4" backspacing is most likely close to what the ghetto superstar wheels that you have right now are.

I pulled the trigger and got them last afternoon. 5 inch backspacing, should be here tuesday, that's not soon enough.

Plastic skirt thing under the front bumper, I know them as air dam, could be a valence or skirt or something?
 
I'm sure you could get rid of it if you wanted to, but I wouldn't.

1. I think it would look ugly.

2. I think it is there to protect the radiator.

theres another guy on this site that took his of his sr5, and personally i think it looks better with it on.... but hey, give it a shot....
