After more than 1 year of complete BS in trying to get the moving/popping/clicking driver's seat in my 06 Runner fixed (the problem was 90% solved in late 2007), I buy a beautiful 2008 Blizzard Pearl Urban Runner figuring there just cannot be more seat problems. Toyota would have fixed that issue by now, right?

WRONG. After two months, the driver seat in my new Runner is doing the same crap as my other one - popping, clicking, moving. I am furious. This is f***ing ridiculous.

WTF is going on here??? I am so mad right now. Is anybody else having this problem???

I will NEVER buy another Toyota. Ever.

There's an SB that someone posted that shows the lube points to eliminate the issue. I know that doesn't stop the slight movement but at least it's quiet.

IMHO- Whatever lube they're using isn't quite right. Mine started making some noise and I did the SB. It lasted a short time and worked so-so at best. I then repeated procedure with a motorcyle chain lube product called Chain Wax and it's been perfect for a very long time.

CAUTION: Chain wax smells for a week. Be very neat and wipe any extra to keep the odor to a minimum.

I know that seems like a lousy solution in the sense you have to tolerate a smell for a while and you have a brand new, super sweet ride. Why should it stink?

I am sure there's some other lube that will work without the an odor I just don't know what it is.

i have a new blizzard pearl 2008 urban runner as well. i haven't noticed anything with the seat, but then again i haven't been looking.

if u describe the problem, i'll keep a closer eye on the seat.

i drove my 4runner to work today so i can check it out when i leave work.

perhaps i never noticed moving/popping/clicking

please let me know.
 
I feel your pain, Toyota absolutely sucks when it comes to owning up to problems that aren't catastrophic failures. If the vehicle can move under its own power, everything is "normal" or "within specs".

If it's any consolation, the seat in my '04 stopped popping after about 3 years. Awesome!!!

I had the exact same annoying issue with my 06. I posted a number of times about it but I can't seem to find the posts. The issue lingered for a year, I must have brought the vehicle in half a dozen times with absolutely no results. The last time I brought it in, toyota had it for 5 weeks and didn't solve the problem. I filed suit against Toyota Motor Corp. and settled for, in my opinion, far less than all that aggravation was worth.

When I decided to buy the Urban, I figured that 2 years later, there would be no seat issue, that toyota would have corrected it. How dumb do I look.

If anyone can find those prior posts, please let me know.

Yeah I found all of my prior posts regarding the seat issue in the 06 Runner. I just don't understand how the problem can still exist two years later. Maybe this issue bothers me more than most people, I don't know, but it is a damn annoyance that has me seeing red....again.

I'm dealing with a different dealership, so maybe they can solve it this time. I've emailed them my entire file, correspondence and all, of my suit against Toyota and made it pretty clear that I want this fixed the first time and fixed properly.

We'll see.
 
Good luck! I hope they take care of you. I know how awful it can be especially when you like the vehicle. I special ordered a 99 Chevy 2500 truck. It was exactly the truck I had dreamed of... That series of 4.8/5.3/6.0 engines quickly became famous for piston-slap. They couldn't/wouldn't do anything for me and even though the truck was fine I couldn't stomach a rattling, loud engine. It made me emotionally sick. I ended up selling it.

As it turns out the long term durability of the engine series is fine but I had no way of knowing that the 6.0 was a durable, good engine as it was a new series.

Unfortuantely for you no amount of feedback reassuring you the seat won't break doesn't eliminate the rocking & popping when you drive your vehicle. At least with piston-slap (if the engine series is old enough and it's a good engine) you can learn to play the radio loud while the engine is warming up:D

OK update time.

I emailed my entire litigation file to the service manager at the dealer from which I bought the Urban. He seems like a good guy who genuinely wants to help.

I made it clear, in a very polite and respectful manner, that I will not go the route I did the first time - 14 months, half a dozen attempts at a fix, total aggravation. I want it fixed the first time out.

I brought it in on Wednesday a.m. and let their master tech have a crack at it. Two hours later, he came to me convinced he had fixed it. We went for a short drive around the parking lot and bam - same noise, no fix. I then dropped it off and got a loaner. The manager called me around 4 p.m. and said they attempted two or three different things (none worked) and that they were just going to replace the entire seat from another one on the lot.

I mean damn, I know I've put on weight over the past year (I've gone from 202 to 234) but I thought Toyota trucks were supposed to be tough.

So we'll see what happens. I need this entire forum to cross their fingers for me as I seem to be snakebit with this issue.

I'm glad you're getting somewhere... If you were 334 I would say you're pushing the design limits too hard. Anything sold in America/Canada should handle 240/250 with no problem....

you are complaining about a small popping? Geez it is not that big of a deal. What other car are you going to buy that doesn't have problems as much as your t4r? Let alone anyone other manufacturer out there has more problems than you would want to know and cost tons more.

At least your car starts, runs and drives well.
 
It is NOT a small popping. The damn seat moves, and the popping/clicking/creaking noise is on every damn turn. It is CONSTANT. May not be a big deal to you but it damn sure is to me. How would you like to hear that crap 100 times a day? Or more?

This a brand new Toyota, not some piece of shit that is 10 years old. I have every right to expect this vehicle to live up to the standards that Toyota has set over the years.
 
OK, update time.

On Friday, December 19, Arlington Toyota in Jacksonville (easily the best dealership I've ever been to) replaced the entire seat in my Urban without the slightest hint of a hassle. No weeks of funny fixes, no months of BS, nothing. They read the repair orders of everything I went through with my 06 and the service manager said hey, we'll just order you a new seat. Took two days. They gave me the boxy Scion to drive, that was pretty funny.

I hope I don't jinx myself, but so far, so good. Seat seems nice and tight, no movement, a slight noise here and there. Very sporadic. THAT is no big deal, I can live with that.

This dealership is so unlike all others I've visited. Still seems like a little mom and pop place. Not very big, not the giant, modernized, state of the art showroom, just a very small lot like you'd see in the 80s. No pressure, very cool salespeople, and service guys who actually know what they're doing.

All dealerships should have people like this one.

2006 4Runner Sport with loose seat

I had my recalled gas pedal replaced here in Denver and I told them my seat was loose. They said the TSB was only for manual seats and not power, but they would contact Toyota and get back to me if there was anything they could do. It has been about a month and I have not heard back, weird.

I am going to file a complaint with safercar.gov and see if that gets Toyota's attention. I would hate to get in an accident and be ejected from the vehicle while still attached to my seat. I don't think that is the kind of publicity Toyota is looking for right now.
