Anyone from NoCal looking to hit up Hollister this weekend? Headed out to Hollister on Sunday (1/25) morning would love to have another 4R with me...

Want to be there around 10ish to get in a solid couple hours of wheelin; let me know if you are interested!?

38 views and not one response, hmmm?! I am definitely no 4x4 expert just looking to hit up some moderate trails and perhaps a roll or two through the mudpit (always fun). It's not a 4R if it stays clean all the time...

C'mon guys, there's got to be someone who wants to roll?
 
I may be down! I'll be coming back from South Lake Tahoe Saturday night so, sunday might be an option!

I'm right outside of Watsonville, so, send me a PM if you wanna meet up :)

ps. i'm not touchin' the mud pit. i was there a week and a half ago and it took 3 hrs of the pressure washer to make it clean again.

Let's see it rained hard all day, hailed for a solid 30 minutes and there was runoff coming down from every direction...

I hate the thought of driving over rocks...but I haven't done them yet.

Looks fun in hollister. Is it all trails that you have to follow?

There are some hairy rock crawler only areas, but this one was just enough to attempt w/o armor. There are two obstacle coarses; the one pictured is more of a "follow the trail" type the other is an open area where you can do whatever. The rest of the park is just open trails that all interconnect. You pick up a map of them when you check-in at the main gate and they have trail ratings: Easy - Medium - Difficult. That way you can cruise and check out anything within your comfort level. I have never tackled any Difficult ratings as the Medium trails (IMO) are about a 5 or 6 rating. I've only gone out with one or two other rigs with the same level of mods and been hesitant to get stuck somewhere on a one way trail - that could ruin a good day of wheelin.

Been ichin to try out some snow trails though, hopefully we can get up to Sierras soon!
 
im from fremont and have been trying to find something local to have some fun in.

im only 2wd but from the looks of that obstical i think i should be fine on stuff like that. i would be totally down to get together some weekend.

Nice pics, good lookin 4R! Just back from the Hungry Valley/Gorman trip with the SoCal crew - you guys missed out on some sweet a** trails.

The drive definitely sucked, but it was cool to meet up with other guys; we ended up with 7 4Rs and had a great time.

I am down for another Hollister trip (or anywhere for that matter) soon. If we hit up Hollister, I find it better on Sunday's as it is much less crowded. Your clearance should allow you to do pretty much anything that is medium grade or less w/o any problems. I haven't hit up anything harder as I have always ended up there by myself - don't want to get stuck with no support!

If you guys want to get something on the calendar; say 3/15 or 3/29 let me know. I can start another thread and see if we can't get a couple more to roll out?
 
either of those sundays should be ok with me. nothing planned as of yet. how much is it to get in? im from fremont and not really sure how to get out there. i know its out by gilroy but not sure how to get to the actual 4 wheeling spot. you think ill have any problems on rocks and such in the rain with slipping? did you air your tires down at all doing that run over the logs and rocks?
 
Entrance for day use is only $5 and from Mountain View I can make the entire day using only 3/4 or so tank of gas.

It says 1hr 20min, but on Sundays it only takes me 1hr each way.

The last couple times I haven't aired down at all. The trails are for vehicle use only and don't get too washboarded out from other OHV types and even in the wet weather as pictured I had no slippage issues - although I couldn't get any traction on the stair climb (not pictured) and should have aired down for that - it's still on the list to 'accomplish'. The park has a nice big compressor too at the entrance so airing back up is no big deal before leaving to the open highway.

I'll start a new thread and see if we can't generate some interest for one of those dates.
 
thats awesome. thanks a lot for the info. you think being a 2wd i will have issues with full air pressure? also i think at some point ill be looking at a total of 5 inch lift for the front. i like where the rear is sitting but the front could use some more lift. still have a ton of rake on it. plus i would like to use my spacers in the front but having it at that height i am hitting the body mount on slight turn of the wheel pretty substancialy.

any idea what company offers a 5" for the front and what the cost would be? i know the FJ springs will yeild another 1/2" but thats still not going to be enough for my goal. looking to get the clearance and suspension travel to outweigh the lack of 4wd. looking for a shop local that i could get some info from.

are there many trails and obstacles that my truck would be able to tackle out there?

also do you know of any other places local to the bay area that would be a good place to wheel? whether it just be fire roads or whatever. just seems too much of the bay area is developed or roped off.
