Is 4Runner cheaper brother of Lexus GX?

I was looking at FRONTAL OFFSET CRASH TEST PERFORMANCE of 4runner (http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_ratings/ce/html/0309.htm#) and it says ther that 4runner and Lexus GX "are identical except for minor styling and trim differences" . However when i was buying my 4Runner i asked salesman about this and he said they are different. i know that Highlander and Camry are on the same platform so I thought that there is some kind of Lexus with same platform as 4Runner. Do You know who is right? I think that salesman didn't know what he was saying.

You get a cigar, they use the same platform. Things like wheel base length will be exactly the same. There are some difference, kind of like the Ford Taurus & Mecury Sable.
 
I learned on this board that both vehicles are built side by side in the same plant. The GX470 looks different than the 4Runner, but most of the mechanics are the same as the V8 4Runner. They both have the 4.7L 235 hp V8 with a 5 speed transmission. I read that the 4Runner is 0.5 seconds quicker than the GX. In conclusion, the GX470 is a 4Runner with standard leather seats, nice wood trim, and some more Lexus goodies. Obviously, the GX is more luxurious, but you will have to pay through the nose for that.
 
I wonder if the GX's headlights would work on the 4Runner? Those HID projectors are a pretty cool.

those headlights don't look like they're the right shape to fit the 4runner. i've also been pondering the same thing for a while now. i wish toyota made that for the 4runners. that should be one of the changes for 2005. i would definately buy a pair to put on mine.

'04 GX doesn't have HIDs, neither does the LX - speculation I've read in the past is that Lexus doesn't want them on vehicles that sit up so high (although they've been available on the RX car based platform for years). I don't know about '05 though.
 
I was reading a post where a guy posted pics of his GX with hid's.

It looks like th added them LATER.

I don't get why such a nice expensive housing like that on a 50k+ vehicle doesn't have them, which Escalades/Navigators, and the new GX56 gets them.

That is correct. My parents were thinking of purchasing either a GX470 or the LX470 and that was one of the things they wanted on the truck. They are friendly with one salesman from Lexus, and he told them that Lexus will not put those type of lights on such high vehicles. He said that is because they feel it is a safety hazard to smaller sedans. The only SUV that they will put it on is the RX330. Doesn't the GX470 have some sort of special bulb that makes it brighter than a standard halogen bulb? I think there is a special name for the bulb in the GX.
 
Escalades/Navigators, and the new GX56 are just as high. IF they aim them properly from the factory this is a non issue.

I answered my own question. I got this quote from lexus.com. I hope it is ok to post it here:

"Four-Beam Headlamps

To help you navigate even the most remote of destinations, the GX has independent, automatic on/off, four-beam projector headlamps with variable-off timing. There are also foglamps that have been integrated into the front bumper—helping to improve visibility in fog, as well as reduce glare for the driver. "

I think that the lexus gx470 is the land cruiser son.
It has been out for many year in forein countries
