Moto Rack Jack - Dirt Bike Carrier

I don't know how many of you are as avid an off-roader as I am. From my perspective, the 4Runner is a superior vehicle. But it is too expensive to smash up on purpose. So, I bring dirt bikes to go where I fear to tread in the 4Runner. Dirt bikes are very hard to break and are not nearly as expensive to repair.

Anyway I just received a Moto Rack Jack to bring my KTM with me on my ventures into the Ozarks. I was tired of dealing with a trailer for one bike. Here are a number of photos that describe how it fits.

The only issue I have is that in it's lowest position it requires a lift to get the KTM onto the platform.

If I get the front tires onto a curb or even a bit higher than the back tires, the platform is below the KTM skidplate.

I purchased their heavy duty model, which is good for 400 pounds.

The heavy duty model has additional gussets in critical stress corners.

They say to connect the bike handle bar to the hitch with a strap. That is all that is needed. Well, maybe a cable & lock for overnights.

I use a rail...looked at the MJR, but just couldn't hang my bike just on the pegs. Where do you ride in the Ozarks? I grew up around that area and now live in Kansas City. I try to get down to Mark Twain Forest once a year in the fall before deer season. This area and the White Rock area in Arkansas are some of the best outdoor adventure areas you can find.

Here are some pics of my KTM 200EXC woods weapon:

Maybe I am too old and slow for you. I crushed a knee at Chadwick and have not gone back since then.

I ride Mill Creek & Huckleberry Mtn OHV areas, as well as all the rest of the Ozark National Forest. Pretty much always doing the dual sport thing there.

That's funny...I crushed a knee at Chadwick also but still go back.

I just picked up this new 04' 200EXC and actually got it plated in KS. They have some funny regs in KS, but basically I was able to get it titled and tagged without inspection...otherwise they never would have issued the plate. I don't dare bring it out on the road without blinkers/DOT tires etc. But I think with the KS tag, it is enough to keep me out of trouble if I ride some of the fire roads in Mark Twain. If I understand it correctly, you just have to have a tagged bike (i.e. Dual sport). Is that right?

Question for you about the MJR....I get some hitch wobble with my rack. So I run a strap from the tow hook to the rack to stabalize it. On my Yakima bicycle rack, it has a cinch pin that actually threads in and stabilizes the rack. Does the MJR have a cinch pin? If not, do you get any wobble?

Yes, I ride a KTM LC4 mostly off road.

http://www.DualSportMagazine.com/2004FCT.com

I use the 4Runner to get the KTM where I want to ride, and to explore areas for new trails. When laying out new trails, I fiind it a lot easier to use my GPS and to have room to lay out the National Forest maps, as well as the Delorme Gazatteer. Then when I tie down the good spots I go back and ride everything with the KTM.

The rough Forest Service roads are a blast in the 4Runner. Never a squeak or rattle. But then I only have 20K on the clock so far.

My next tires will be the BFG AT KOs as these back roads take their toll on street oriented tires.

There is a bolt to put pressure on the hitch to limit movement. I have not gone anywhere with the MJR yet, so I don't know how much it moves. When I shake it by hand the movement doesn't bother me. I think hooking the single strap between the bike and the hitch will place sufficient lateral pressure on the set-up to control movement.

The white paint doesn't show the scratches from the branches. That is unless the light is just right. I plan on using the Zaino #5 to fill those scratches. The soft leaves on the bushes and trees do not seem to affect the surface of the multi layer Zaino treatment.

In reality, the 4Runner is a SUV that I purchased to go off-road. While I will not smash it up on purpose, I am not going to baby it either. I am an avid out doors person. As such, I find the best parts of my many adventures to other parts of the US are on the back country roads.

I have one called the Versa-Hauler and love it. I add some towing lights to the roof because the bike blocks the turns and break lights. They are the kind you see when RV's are towing a car. I like the jack idea I have to carry a ramp. Nice LC4 I think you put up some moab photos last spring? Mine was super orange so I got some new plastic - black fender and mask. I also go the comfort seat that is all black.
