My Terk XM Install in my 04 Limited V8

I chose this unit because it was the easiest, I thought, to put into the interior in as subtle a way as possible. I got the idea from another board members install. It is very visable for everyone iin the car with the way I have it angled up. It is secure enough taht we can use the buttons on it to. I have to say I love where it is. Many of the people who get into my car are surprised that it is not stock. I can still use the cubby too. The antenna is on the roof just in front of the rear hatch.

Thanks! I have the Nav Unit.

I do have one problem, the volume for the XM is way lower than the radio or cd (as I switch source). The Terk has an adjustment for this and I have mine all the way up but it is still noticeably lower than the other sources. I wonder if I need a better ground. I am not sure where to look for the answer.

I am using the FM Modulator. Not the best I know but it works really well. I have talked to others who have the Terk and they say on the highest setting their XM is louder than their radio. That is what makes me think it is something else.

Why didn't you use the navigation system for your XM?

They sell a kit that makes it work right through your navigation system.
 
I LOVE the way that looks!! Did you have to cut alot out of that cubby hole? Did you do a write up? I am thinking about getting XM but was stumped on where to mount it and still look OEM.

I had the same problem when using my xm radio unit. The sound coming out of the unit was much lower than normal. This problem is actually quite common. I bought an item called the Boostaroo. Web site here http://www.boostaroo.com/ This was well worth the money. I use this whether I am hooking up my unit through my home stereo system or in my vehicle. You will definitly notice a difference.
 
Hitman, show me how please. The only ones I have seen use the CD Changer input. I currently have a CD changer there and will be switching that out to an IPod control as soon as someone makes a converter for that.

Boaz, I suppose this is my write up. Lame, you are right. I will see if I can get some shots of the back of the cubby pocket for you. What you see as the recess for the units face plate in its mounting bracket is about what I have to cut out. I followed another guy’s direction up here. The control box is mounted under the steering wheel.

A Boostaroo, interesting. Some guys use those for their motorcycle headsets but I have only seen them in a mini-plug style for headphones, not an FM car antenna style. Thanks for the suggestion.
 
Nav and XM

I recently added the XM to my NAV.

I bought the kit from Toyota and it was pretty expensive $450 I believe.

Easy installation plugs right into the NAV.

It's worth the money. Works great. Sound great and you retain all your controls. I have picture if you guys want to see just let me know.

Plenty of help for install in these treads and SiennaClub.org. I definetly could not have attempted any of my installs without there help.

Hooking up to the Nav was easy.

I put the brain box (about the size of a paperback) in that little useless compartment in the back wheel well.
Compared to installing the backup camera piece of cake...

You shoudl do a write up on it, part numbers etc buddy. That is slick. the interface looks totally different from the 4Runner interface.

It looks like that but doesn't say check your surroundings... at least mine doesn't. I think the 05 NAVs say that. Hmmmm... I bet it would still work. Good find.
