Has anyone replaced their rear turn signals with the silverstars? I tried to pick up a set and the only kind the stores had were the 4157 AST, where the manual says the '04 T4R require 4157 NA. The difference being the 4157 NA are narrow bulbs that can fit the hole in the tail light. The 4157 AST are more bulbous or fatter and don't fit in the hole. (I know, sounds like a personal problem) I went to the Sylvania website and they only offer the fat bulb not the thin bulb. What to do, what to do. I have the JDM blackened tail lights but the amber bulb is bothersome to me, I want it to be clean, know what I mean jellybean????

I was unable to find the right size bulb from the Silverstar line, I searched for an alternative, but they were all of different colors, red, blue, green. I did find one site that was from England, that had a mirrored finsh on an amber bulb, but with shipping it was close to $30 a bulb! So I looked into glass paints, and found this site... http://www.jurgeninc.com/pearlglasspaint.htm
There were some others, but this one stated it can be used on light bulbs, so the heat would not be an issue. The cost was ~$18, there was a $5 charge because of a twenty dollar min. order. But I figured for $18 I can do all the amber lights on my truck if I wanted. It took several coats that require 15 min. to one hour dry time depending on thickness of application. I did around 6-8 coats. You can tell the difference in the pic. I think a few more coats will do the job.

so I wasn't too happy with the bulb painting experiment, and after some more research found this site. I ordered the chrome coated 7440 amber bulb. The base is a little different in that it is a plastic wedge and not the glass wedge type. With some coaxing it fit into the socket and works great. Here are some pictures..what do you guys think?

First a camparison of non-painted, then painted, and finally chrome coated.....

I too have purchased the "japan blacked out tail lights"

Officially they are Toyota JDM Hilux Surf rear lights.

I'm going to be doing the same thing you did. Looks good. Now, have you changed out your DRL bulbs.
 
I was thinking about changing out those too. Might as well make it a complete set, I did change out the parking light peanut bulbs. They are a b*tch to get to...bought them by mistake. I thought I was getting the rear turn signals, got them instead. You can get them here.
