To those of you with either Daystar or Revtek Spacers

I have had my daystar spacers in for a while, atleast 6 months and they are fine but I have been hearing a noise when i go over sharp bumps, I am not sure if its because its cold and maybe the spacers are more rigid but I definitely hear a knock-like noise and I cannot figure out what it is. I have made sure all bolts are tight and still have no clue. I just wanted to put this out there to see if anyone else has had a similar noise. I could be off and it could be something unrelated to the suspension but i dont think that is the case. Any help would be appreciated from anyone with spacers installed. Thanks

Sorry I didnt specify...its coming from the front...i definitely hear it from the driver side and may also be passenger side. I have checked the jack and my spare tire is tight.
 
Hmmm, not "normal" under any circumstance. If it's only on a sharp bump then it's something that doesn't "freely" rattle but only when jarred. You may have to get underneath and in the engine area and physically touch and shake stuff with your hand to see what's loose.
 
Yeah, i am gonna have to check underneath thoroughly...I did a quick inspection last week and didnt notice anything loose or anything....All i know is its bugging me not knowing what it is. At first i was thinkin maybe its that little bumper stop getting more rigid in the cold and hitting that would make the noise but who knows...
 
One thing you might check is the sway bar links. I'm not sure how the suspension looks on the 4runners (yet) but on my M3, I had a clunk from the link if it wasn't really tight.
 
Yep ... check the sway bar end links. I had the same issue and it ended up just needing to be tightened on both sides with an air tool.

Sound went away and everything was fine again.

If you have someone push on the truck from side to side so it's rocking a bit, and you watch under the truck around where the sway bar end links go through the spindle, you should be able to notably see the end links shifting around and easily identify that as the cause of the noise.

If that desn't work for you and you checked the torque setting on all the suspension bolts, you might want to look at the body mount TSB. I know some owners had knock sounds from a body mount in the left front.
 
well i have checked the sway bar end links and they are tight....i checked all the suspension bolts that i could and they all are tight....so it might come down to the body mount TSB...i wish I knew what it involved so I could try to investigate the problem. I guess I will have to go to the dealer and let them know and hopefully they know about the TSB. Do you know of others that have had it done? If so do you know what was changed or fixed? Thanks again for all the help
 
just a side note about the sway bar end links...i just used a breaker bar to make sure they were tight...i didnt break out the air gun...i figured if they were not moving with the breaker bar they were tight enough
 
Dont use a breaker bar to tighten bolts, use a good torque wrench. You should torque the suspension bolts to the specified setting. Swaybar endlinks are only like 53 ft/lb if I remember correctly, which is not that hard to do at all.

Did you use a torque wrnech when bolting everything back? and did you use the correct tq settings?
 
I did use a torque wrench when i first installed the lift and then also 100 miles afterwards but today when i checked everything I just used a breaker bar to make sure they were tight...i didnt try to work it tighter, i just did it to the point where i could tell it was tight...i didnt fight it...i figured I could just do that quick to make sure everything was tight. If i would have felt something loose i would have torqued it then. I used the torque settings specified in the daystar install instructions.
