03-04 TRD exhaust on 05 V8 Sport

I ordered the TRD cat back exhaust for my 05 4Runner Sport V8....I was assured that the TRD cat back exhaust for the 03-04 was the same for 05...the exhaust does fit on BUT the spare tire will not fit anymore....is there a different exhaust for the 05 4Runner? is so, I need to get the dealer to correct this problem

other than the spare tire not fitting, it looks and sounds GREAT!

someone please verify that the 05 can not use the exhaust from the 03-04 so I dont think i'm crazy

i know for a fact that 03-04 borla systems won't fit on an 05. can't remember which thread, put someone here actually tried and it didn't work. don't know if it was the spare not fitting, but they contacted the ebay seller and had them change their ad to say won't fit 05. but here's the ebay ad that was updated:

Having only had it on since yesterday afternoon...driving around today was very enjoyable with this exhaust...it has a healthy growl on accelleration and down right wicked V8 sound at wide open throttle. Normal cruising its almost as quiet as stock....a good growl when accellerating in city traffic. I really like it.

Hey All,
I don't know about the TRD system, but that was me that tried the '04 Borla system on my '05 V8. I made a couple of people on Ebay change their ads as they really didn't know it wouldn't fit. It looked as if the pipes would line up, but all the hangings were wrong and would have required some welding to make it work and I didn't want to mess with that. I got mine from a Southeast Toyota dealership (Jacksonville, FL) and his rep still has no word on when the Borla will fit the '05. He'll contact me as soon as he hears something and I'll pass it along.

the TRD did align just fine and everything bolted up perfectly...it just doesnt leave me enough space to keep the spare tire

i will call the dealer i got the exhaust from in the morning and see what he's gonna do to fix the problem

as I have everything saved where I kept specifying that I had the 2005 Sport 4.7L V8 4WD w/ xreas

sounds like exactly what i'm looking for! the borlas at $550 are tempting but i don't want the drone, and it sounds like the trd doesn't have that. can't wait to hear sound clips! thanks again.

the only range that could even be considered a drone is 1500-1700 under slight acceleration (cruising is almost silent)...but its not really loud at all...its just noticeable enough to mention....

again..wot on this is wicked...think old 5.0 mustang....my dad was amazed...I cranked it and he said "not much different than stock...a little better growl"...then I got on it

he said "its almost like it has dumps that open when u are at wot...normal driving is only a little more growl than stock" *haha*

sorry I have to make ya wait til I get back for the sound clips, but I leave for florida in 7 hours! *hehe*

when I spoke to TRD about their exshust for a sport edition, they said it wouldnt fit because of x-reas... is this incorect or what???
I have an '04 V8 SE

BTW, they also said they are waiting for new ECU's for their V* super chargers.

the exhaust bolts up just fine...but in their installation instructions, the picture shows the driver's side exhaust pipe running between the spare tire and the frame....on my 05 Sport, the spare tire is right up on the frame...no room for the pipe to go between... maybe this is extra space taken up by Xreas?? anywayz, right now i have the exhust on, but no spare tire.

ok..after my trip to florida, I can say that there is a drone in one situation....holding a speed up a hill...since it wont downshift unless you hit the gas more, holding a speed up a hill around 1500/1700rpms results in a slight drone...its not really loud, but worth mentioning

i'll try to get sound clips sometime this week

I have been meaning to get several sound clips up....unfortunately I've been very busy lately....spring break....and now I will be in training all this week...so it will have to wait til i get back

Hey Doug,
Any luck with the sound clip? Picking my 05 Sport V8 up thursday. Its either TRD or the side exit Magnaflow. This sound clip would be a great help!

now i'm trying to close on a house...

plus i'm trying to figure out the best way to get the sound...i guess i can just record it on my video cam and steal the audio...

plus i'd have to get someone to record it from outside so you could hear it from a bystander point *hehe* its 'mustang v8ish' at wide open throttle

easiest way honestly is just to use a digi cam and take a video....sure the sound isnt going to be 100% accurate but it the best without having to go out of the way.

I'll be waiting! I was told the exhaust will sound diff than an 04 V8 with same exhaust due to the VVTI and possibly different head/compression design. Curious before I go with the Magnaflow side exit
