Cleaning '99 alum. wheels? Advise please.

'99 4rnr sr5

Stock 3-dual spoke aluminum wheels.

Are these wheels clear coated?

Reason I'm asking is that I would like to polish them but, if they are clear coated.....

Have "Bluemagic" ready to go.

Also, I noticed that the mirror housings are duller than the rest of the paint on the truck (Plastic/no paint, different paint?)

i'll jump on this thread with another wheel-cleaning question. i've got the same aluminum wheels on my 97 and the previous owner didnt take the best care of them. the grainier part of the wheels are filthy with what i assume is brake dust. nothing i have tried has been able to get these clean again. aluminum polish worked the best, but still nowhere near clean. any ideas?

You may want to try Formula2000 wheel cleaner. It comes in a flouresent green spray bottle and it is safe for clear coated wheels. I use it on my 99' limited and it works great.

I have the Limited wheels and I just clean them with Meguire's Hot Wheels spray cleaner and then I wipe them with a towel and mine look great and no problem keeping them clean.

i bought Eagle 1 A2Z wheel cleaner comes in a orange bottle and its Great stuff you just spray it on and hose it off in about a minute..its 5 bucks i think at pep boys.

yea i use that too works good. like the other dude the previous owner could have done a better job cause the wheels have like scratches and i think the cleaner i used before ate away the paint on the lug cap

The lug caps commonly lose their paint just from normal driving.
I repainted the ones on my '97 and then filled in the "T" with a red acrylic laquer (sp?) and then clear coated the whole thing and it looked sharp;I'm planning to do the same on my '99 but with Jade Mica laquer to match my paint of course.

There is a product called "Mag Aluminum Polish" that you can get at most auto parts stores. It is not a liquid, it comes in a tear-off cotton style application, I used to use this all the time on one of my GM cars that had a lot of aluminum (including the wheels), and it works great, it just takes a long time to do.

Eagle One A2Z is great.

For polishing aluminum Mcguires alum polish is also great. **I DO NOT know if these wheels can be polished though. My guess is NO.

Simple Green is also very good to cut through tough greese and brake buildup

Cleaning '99 alum. wheels? Advise please.
