The funniest bit of all this is everything you mentioned is D.C. powered. AC travels, DC powers is a general rule of thumb. So, many of your home appliances simply have a huge AC to DC converter inside. Your modern TV, Computer, Laptop... etc.

Anyway. It just cracks me up. Every time you do conversion, you lose power (usually through heat). So. Your standard laptop will take D.C. power from your cars battery, the AC converter will switch it and then your laptops power brick will convert it back to DC. Nasty.
