I'm in the same boat with a similar problem. My issue is a pressure sensor on the air switching valve. From what I can tell, the bypass wont fix this issue, so I will have to engineer my own solution for that.

Why they decided to put an electric pump and valve underneath the intake manifold is beyond me. Even with design mistakes like that, I wouldn't be upset if they actually did something about it like they did with the tundra and sequioa.

After hearing about this and other issues with the 4runner (the cracking/leaky V8 headers, and the driveshaft clunk), I regret buying another Toyota. This is my sixth Toyota, and will likely be my last.
