I looked into this as well because of the skid plate hassle after my first oil change. My conclusion was that there are minimal to zero benefit and increases areas of failure - hose fittings, ensuring proper flow to the engine, etc.
I don't drive a ton of miles so I only change my oil once per year. If you are driving a ton of miles, I would look at extended drain oils that can go up to 1 year - Mobil 1 (10k), Mobil 1 EP (15k), Amsoil SS (25k). I would also pair it with an extended interval filter such as Mobil 1, Fram Ultra(XG series), and Amsoil 15k series.
Would check with a Used Oil Analysis if you are really pushing 15k/20k/25k per year to make sure you are ok. Our engines are fairly easy on oil and you should be ok in the 10-15k mile per year. Beyond that it will really depend on your driving style and conditions. Bobistheoilguy.com is also another great resource.
