If you have a Google account(Gmail) all your contacts will be on Google's servers. SO you could factory reset and your contacts would repopulate once you signed back into your google account. You'll loose your SMS's though. Your apps will also be backed up to Google so as soon as you sign back in it'll ask you if you want to restore those apps. Just click restore from previous device.
Before you go full factory reset try clearing both caches. Here's a link to a how-to:
