I think stacked on the roof would be much nicer. What does the roof look like when you have stuff up there- like you mentioned you'll be doing soon?
Also, I definitely wouldn't leave them unattended if they aren't locked up!

Haven’t had chance to set up my roof because I’m monstalining it. The ratchet strap goes through the rim and around. In the pic it looks like it only goes around the tire. But it snakes through the rim and back out.
